My dog is coughing, lethargic, honking, and throwing up mucus. What to do?

Those symptoms are very vague and could be attributed to almost any illness or disease process. You should take her to a vet for an exam if at all possible. She could have an upper respiratory infection, pneumonia, a virus (like distemper) or so many other possibilities. It is best to get a diagnosis from the vet and then treat her accordingly.

Poor Daisy! I would take her back into the vet today if possible. Without seeing her in person, I can't say what is causing her symptoms but it is concerning that she is now making the honking sounds again and is vomiting. I'm wondering if she actually has a productive cough - a cough can sound very similar to attempted vomiting in a dog and they will often retch at the end and produce a small amount of white foam. This would go along with the runny nose that you're seeing. You should see your vet - this could be a sign of an upper respiratory infection, an infection like kennel cough, or even pneumonia. Even if she has not been around other dogs and she is the only one showing symptoms at this point an infection is still possible.

Poor pup! It sounds like he has a severe respiratory infection, and I would take him into the vet right away. It's quite serious that he is struggling to breath, and he could go into respiratory distress if he can't breath well. He may need a decongestant to help him breath better, which can be prescribed by a vet. Please take him into one now.

Poor Snow. She could have a respiratory infection causing the coughing and she may have coughed so hard she vomited. Given that this has been going on for three days, it's time to see the vet. Sounds like Mama is definitely in a pretty significant amount of pain, and probably experiencing some nausea as well. In order to determine the cause, a physical exam should be performed by a veterinarian. They will be able to tell you if further diagnostics are required to come up with a reason for Mama's current state. In the meantime just so you can be sure immediate attention isn't required, consider obtaining a temperature (normal is 99 - 102.5), checking the gums for pinkness / moisture, and checking the skin for normal elasticity. If Mama appears stables in these regards, there is no reason to think she needs to be rushed out tonight.

I sam so sorry that she’s not doing well. From what you describe, I’m very concerned about her and you need to seek emergency veterinary care immediately. Call your vet’s office even if they are closed—they likely have a recording for either how to contact the vet in case of an emergency, or information for the nearest vet clinic. There are many possible causes for what’s going on, but it sounds like at the very least she needs some IV fluids and some lab work and possible X-rays may be needed. I am so sorry there isn’t something I can suggest you do for her at home at this point, but if she’s just lying there, she seems cold, and her breathing is labored, you have got to get her to a vet.
