My dog ate lemon poppy seed bread. Should I be concerned about toxicity?

My 18 pound miniature poodle just ate one bite of lemon poppy seed bread. Should I be concerned?

I would not be concerned if Dani only ate one bite of a lemon poppyseed muffin. Please monitor GI upset like vomiting and diarrhea and if these occur you may offer a bland diet of boiled chicken and sweet potato or rice. If vomiting or diarrhea does occur and is severe you may need to have Dani examined to see if medication is needed.

Again, I think it's highly unlikely Dani will become sick but do suggest monitoring her for the next day or so to ensure she doesn't get mild stomach upset.

    Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poppy seeds are generally mildly to moderately toxic to dogs, and this depends greatly on the amount ingested. The toxic opioids and alkaloids in the poppy seeds can make dogs lethargic or overly excited. Some signs to look out for include vomiting, lethargy, pinpoint or dilated pupils, or increased salivation. If Dani has any of these symptoms, she should be seen by a vet immediately as this may require stabilization. I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!

Hi there! I really think Winnie will be fine. Usually, if we see anything at all, it is if there is ingestion of a large quantity of the seeds. These signs could include tremors or stumbling, not walking correctly, or not acting like her normal self. However baked into a muffin there are probably not enough seeds to cause a problem. If you notice Winnie being a little bit off at all, bring her for an examination with her veterinarian, otherwise I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Yes, as she only ate one she'll be fine. She would need to eat much more to make her sick. Please try to keep human food away from Bella as it can give her an upset stomach or diarrhea. Chocolate is the worst toxicity as dogs love chocolate, but grapes or raisins can cause kidney failure so please be careful with those things also. My dog ate a poppy seed muffin 24 hours ago. Is pink stool a concern?
The ASPCA Poison Control does not show any evidence that poppy seeds are toxic to dogs. Sophia could have developed some upset stomach from eating this muffin, but given that 24 hours have passed without a sign, she should be ok. As for the bright pink in her stool, it's possible that ingredients in the muffin caused this color change, but it could also be blood. Keep an eye on her stool, and if you keep seeing this color in Sophia's stool, then I would have her seen by a vet.

Oh boy, Jessie! Well, there is nothing toxic in pie as long as you didn't add any artificial sweeteners. That said, that amount of sugar, fat, etc. may cause stomach upset.. vomiting or diarrhea. I would feed only a small meal for the next meal, and let the stomach rest. Watch for problems and see your vet if you notice any issues.

I don't see any ingredients that are toxic, but the sugar can cause some GI upset. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or a loss of appetite, have them seen by a vet. A small amount of plain bread should not be harmful. The risk comes if raw dough or bread containing raisins, garlic or onions is eaten. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.
