My dog's leg is stiff and won't bend after surgery. Is this normal?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Staffordshire Bull Terrier | Female | 10 months and 6 days old | 50 lbs

My dog had surgery on her broken knee last April. She was kennel bound for 8 weeks after that. My concern is she has no range of motion, she can't bend her arm at all, it sticks straight out. She's coming up for a yearly this month and I'll bring it up..just wondering if this is normal?

After surgical orthopedic procedures there can often be a loss of range of motion due to the healing process. This can be combated through physical therapy. I would highly recommend seeking the guidance of a rehabilitation veterinarian. They can create a therapy regimen for Pep and hopefully help her gain some mobility.
