Pitbull leg lump after surgery, not bearing weight. Is it normal?

Poor girl. : ( It sounds like she is tweaking it a bit when she tries to do extrenuous exercise, which is expected, especially since she still has hardware in place in the leg. Her muscles also can grow tired quicker and become inflamed, which can cause some limping after increased movement. This sounds pretty normal at this stage in the healing process. However, if you are noticing any excessive swelling around the area, drainage or signs of infection, then she should be seen by your vet. Otherwise, follow-up your vet as scheduled to check on things and hopefully the leg is healing well via the post surgery x-rays that they will take. I hope that Olly's leg heals well. It's not normal but some dogs won't bear weight on the leg that they remember being hurt. Some dogs actually need some physical therapy in order to use the leg again. I recommend to speak with your veterinarian about next steps and how to get Nico to use his leg again. I would also prevent any excessive licking by having him wear an elizabethan collar. The leg may be itchy and my need a bath (don't do this however without the OK from your vet). I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

If the fracture occurred 2 years ago, then your vet is right that he should do fine without the plate, since a fracture should completely heal within 2-3 months. If he doesn't seem painful, then I wouldn't be too worried. However, if you feel that there's definitely a change happening in the angle of his leg, then it's worth having your vet take another look. You're also welcome to post a picture and we can offer subjective input on the appearance of the photo. But, this doesn't sound likely to be related to his previous fracture. Hope this helps.

You should definitely give him some time off. Usually 7 days is recommended. Even though the incision is not in a high motion area ( like over a joint) the walking will delay healing by causing separation of the wound edges. Great question! Hope this helps. Best wishes.

This is due to the fact that muscles have not been used as much while it was on. It can take some time to rebuild some strength. However, if she is not making progress walking more normally, she needs to see her veterinarian. Most of the time, I see the normal gait return within several days. I hope this information helps!

I would make sure his pain is adequately controlled and the margins of the biopsy were clean. You may want to have x-rays performed to ensure there is no abnormality to the underlying bone or joints.
