Dog leg injury: no improvement after 3 days. Should I go to the vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 65 lbs

My 6 yr old pit/Boxer stepped in a hole while running three days ago, and pulled something in his hip. He is still not putting any weight on his rear leg, but it doesn’t seem to hurt when he’s lying down. How long does an injury like this take before we could expect to see some improvement? Should he be improving, and needs to go to the vet? I’ve been giving him Boswellia for inflammation and a small dose of Tramadol for pain at night. Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

rear leg injuries are usually a knee injury, it's usually not painful on manipulation but it could be very severe (tared ligament), if you see no improvement in 3-4 days you will need to take Walter to the vet ASAP in order to get it checked and treated.
