I hope he has been seen by your veterinarian to determine the cause. If the underlying reason for his difficulties have been thoroughly investigated, & exercise in not contraindicated, then walking is always good. Keeping Brian on grass, walking with a harness rather than collar, or using a lift assist vest would all keep him from injuring himself. Supervised swimming might be beneficial, as well. I would not recommend giving the Metacam until he is evaluated by a vet. While it would be good for pain control, it can be dangerous in some situations and your vet would need to determine the safety concerns and dosage. rear leg injuries are usually a knee injury, it's usually not painful on manipulation but it could be very severe (tared ligament), if you see no improvement in 3-4 days you will need to take Walter to the vet ASAP in order to get it checked and treated.
