My dog leaks urine when resting, doesn't notice. Is it incontinence?

Fecal and urinary incontinence can be caused by many things including problems with the nervous system or nerves innervating these organs due to spinal cord problems, vetebrae problems, enlargement of organs near the back of the abdomen, tumors, anal region problems, urinary incontinence secondary to her being spayed, etc. So I would highly advise a trip to your veterinarian and let them take a thorough history. They will perform a physical exam and most likely a rectal exam and then advise a set of diagnostics to try to solve these problems. Blood work, fecal tests, x-rays and ultrasound are all initial possible tests to be performed. Once diagnostics are performed the problems can then be addressed. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further diagnostics would include abdominal imaging and lab work. This can be from a hormonal imbalance due to being spayed. If this becomes more frequent there is medication to control the urinary incontinence. They will recommend a urinalysis to make sure there is no medical problem in the urine then they can prescribe medication. Usually a low dose of medication needs to be given lifelong. Hello. There are several medications that may help Nala with her urinary incontinence, both prescription medications available from your veterinarian ( Proin & Incurin ). Please see your vet to first rule out the possibility of this being an urinary infection, bladder stones, or other reason for the urine leaking, then you can try the medications to control her leakage. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Treama. After bladder surgery, there is a quite a bit of inflammation in the urinary tract and this can cause urine leakage. It should resolve with time, but is worth discussing with her veterinarian. Some middle aged spayed female dogs will leak urine due to a lack of hormones. This is unrelated to bladder stones, but could be a contributing cause in her case. This condition is known as hormone responsive incontinence and can be asked about as well. Hello and than you for reaching out about Ellie. This could be a one off accident but it may be related to bladder infection. Urine incontinence after giving birth is very uncommon in dogs. We see sometimes urine incontinence after neutering, but this is related to drop in hormones level resulting in weak urethral sphincter. Please, monitor Ellie at home for the next 24-48hrs. If she has more accidents, you should take her to your local vets. Please, take a urine sample with you, if possible, - it would be the best initial diagnostic test for Ellie.
