My chihuahua puppy is leaking urine after crystal diagnosis.

Keep in mind that this may be unrelated to the crystals and can even be something like urinary incontinence. I would continue monitoring for signs of painful urination or bloody urine. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further diagnostics would include abdominal imaging and lab work. She could have crystals present. This occurs when the urine pH is too high or too low. Crystals can predispose a dog to bladder stones. If this is not the case, you could be seeing mucus in the urine. This tends to go along with a urinary tract infection or inflammation. Is she having any urinary signs at home? This can include straining to urinate, having accidents in the house, urinating more frequently or drinking more water. These symptoms can indicate disease and guide her veterinarian. The most common reasons for straining to urine, urinary accidents and bloody urine are: urinary tract infections (UTI), crystals in the urine, bladder stones and if she is an older dog a bladder or urethral tumor. I recommend collecting a urine sample and bringing her to the Vet before the weekend as she is very uncomfortable. The urine sample can determine if she has an infection or crystals and an X-ray is needed to check for bladder stones. I wish Chi Chi a speedy recovery!

There are a number of different kidney problems, such as incontinence, bladder stones or crystals in the urine, UTIs, cancer, or obstruction to the urethra, and some of them can't be prevented, such as chronic kidney failure or cancer which may naturally occur in older dogs. UTIs in dogs are caused by bacteria entering the urethra. Crystals in the urine can by caused by supersaturated urine, which happens when a dog has to hold their bladder for a long time. For good kidney health, I recommend making sure Bruno is let out to urinate on a regular basis, not being left longer than eight hours between peeing, making sure he always has a source of fresh water available, keeping him at a healthy weight, and making sure he eats a high quality diet.

That's a tough case. If the ultrasound did not include evaluation of the kidneys and ureters (tubes leading from kidney to bladder), it may be worthwhile to have this evaluated using ultrasound or CT. Some patients have ureters that are implanted abnormally in the bladder wall leading to urinary accidents. The second question would be whether or not he has crystals in the urine which may lead to irritation and accidents. The third question is the thickening in the bladder wall...what is it? Can it be aspirated? You need to discuss these questions with your veterinarian or possibly a veterinary internal medicine specialist.

This sounds like Chewy has a urinary infection, bladder stones or prostate problem that is affecting his bladder. There are no home remedies for this. I am so sorry Buck is having this issue. If this has been going on since Buck was a puppy it could be a congenital problem (he was born with it. The most common problem is an ectopic ureter where the ureter (this carries the urine from the kidneys to the bladder) is actually attached in the wrong location on the bladder. This can cause leaking starting from an early age. To diagnose this in the end Buck would need an ultrasound. I would recommend a visit with your veterinarian and bringing a urine sample. This is to make sure that he does not have a urinary tract infection since dogs can have some increased frequency of urination if they have one.
