My puppy has worms and diarrhea. Is ivermectin safe for deworming?

It sounds like your veterinarian is treating your puppies for some form of parasitic disease. The Oligovet is a vitamin supplementation formula and should be OK to use in the puppies. Ivermectin is not recommended for use in puppies less than 6 weeks old. At six weeks it should be OK to administer although I cannot speak to the reasonableness of the dose without knowing the concentration your vet has provided you.

No Ivermectin is not safe, if your vet chooses to use ivermectin he must do an MDR-1 blood test prior to that, this test will reveal if your dog has the gene that causes sensitivity to ivermectin (and other drugs). if you dog is MDR-1 positive there are alternatives, personally i use Bravecto to treat Demodex in all dogs, it's very effective and works better than ivermectin in my experience, it is also safer than ivermectin.

I would check with your vet first to make sure it does not interfere with any other medications Kyah is on if she is still on a treatment for another stomach issue. If you don't know what type of worms Kyah has, you can bring a sample of her stool to your vet for testing so they can provide you with the correct deworming medication. If she is still having diarrhea even after a course of stomach medications, a recheck with your vet to rule out any other health issues such as food allergies, illnesses, GI problems, etc is also a good idea in addition.

It sounds like he has roundworms. VERY common in puppies. The pyrantel is fine to use but I cannot speak to the dose as I don't know how many mg per ml it is. Use the dosing recommendations on the bottle. Puppies need to be dewormed with pyrantel at 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age when they get their vaccines. If he is still showing signs of worms after those three doses then he may need additional treatment. If he is itchy, at his age it is likely fleas or mites. I would treat him for fleas even if you don't see them on him. No, do not do this. It is not safe if it's labeled for puppies over six weeks of age, and even cutting the dosage in half is not safe. I would get Panacur for them. It's safe to give puppies their age, and you may be able to get it at a pet store.

Wormers are generally considered very safe medications and although some vomiting or diarrhea may develop this should resolve uneventfully. Some types can cause tremors and neurological signs and you should contact an emergency vet and inform them of the brand, timing and dosage if you notice any unusual symptoms
