Why does my dog have an itchy, movable lump on her inner thigh?

While insect bites are possible, another common cause of lesions as we see here is a secondary bacterial infection of the skin resulting in papules, crusts, and pustules which can be very itchy. Oftentimes these dogs need a course of antibiotics and either a steroid or a drug called apoquel to get the inflammation/itch under control. Sometimes the itching may be controlled with an antihistamine such as diphenhydramine, hydroxyzine, or cetirizine under the direction of your veterinarian, but oftentimes initially a steroid or stronger medication is required.

Ouch! That irritation can be a number of things, including an allergic reaction, injury trying to heal, infection from bacteria, fungus, or yeast, and more. Since it can be so many different things, a vet visit in person is best. It's also a good idea to place an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Alley to keep her from licking and chewing the spot to see if that helps reduce the irritation. Keeping the area clean and dry can also help. If the spot doesn't seem to look better in 24 hours, worsens, is oozing debris or seems painful/bothersome, or is causing Alley distress, then a vet visit is best to have the area looked at in person and a sample taken to check for the underlying cause. As some fungal infections can also transfer to other pets and people, it's a good idea to wash hands and clothing after handling it as well.

I doesn't look like an insect bite. It could be a small wart or other mass. The only way to know for sure would be to have it examined by a vet and have a sample evaluated under the microscope. There is a type of tumor called a Mast Cell Tumor that can cause itching.

This looks like a little skin wart which are usually nothing to worry about. It doesn't look red or infected at the moment. It could be that she has an underlying skin allergy that is causing the itching. If you are worried you should take her to the vet for an examination. Alternatively you could try giving her a daily antihistamine to see if that settles the itch.

A small area like this could be inflammation as a result of an insect bite or wound, inflammation as a result of bacterial infection (though usually we would see more then just one lump) or a growth/tumor of the skin (we can have benign growths that don't cause any health concerns or growths that are malignant and require removal). Unfortunately without an exam and a sample (taken with a needle most often ) we can't tell you for certain the cause. If it isn't bothering your dog I would continue to monitor it daily. It is from an insect bite or wound it should resolve over the next couple weeks. If it is still there in a month or is increasing in size or changing appearance then a vet visit to investigate the area further is warranted.

Skin growths can be due to a variety of reasons, including allergies, infection, allergies, warts, or true tumors. What type of growth it is typically can be evaluated by a needle sample by your veterinarian, and then a treatment plan can be made, if needed. Good luck!

It could be a small cyst, pustule/papule, or possibly a Histiocytoma which is a benign mass that is common in young dogs. Since it is getting more red, she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. The vet may want to aspirate it and examine the contents under a microscope. She may need an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, it may need to be removed, or just monitored (histiocytomas typically resolve with no treatment). You could use an over the counter spray, like Vetricyn, and see if that helps relieve any redness or discomfort.
