My dog's ears are bleeding from constant scratching, what can I do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 4 months old

My dog has been scratching her ears non stop to the point of bleeding. This has happened several times... she will pace and whine and pant while messing with her ears. When it first started happening we cleaned her ears often and we put ear mite medicine. However, it keeps coming back. My dad doesn’t have money to go to the vet and I hate seeing her in pain but I don’t know what to do.

Hello, sorry to hear about Georgia. Its likely that she does not have ear mites, but likely has allergies and secondary ear infections. Ear mite medications wont do anything for this. Unfortunately, she may need to be evaluated to prescribe her some allergy medications and which ever medications she may need for her potential ear infections.

In the future, if she is truly diagnosed with allergies. Controlling these will prevent her from getting recurrent ear infections.

Hope this helps and best of luck.
