My dog has a new irritated bump near his nipple. What should I do?

Without seeing it in person, I can't say what it is for certain. I can say that nipples are not usually right next to each other. It could be possible he has an extra nipple, but I would be more likely to think it's a lump of some sort. It could be a benign tumor, a wart, or a malignant tumor, among other skin lumps. I would recommend taking Apachie into your vet to have them check out the lump. Any suspicious lumps should be investigated by your vet. Your vet can perform a simple test on it called a fine needle aspirate to help identify it. To do this, your vet will stick a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examine the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform.

I can see some irritation of the skin just below the nipple, but the nipple itself doesn't look diseased. I would recommend trying a hot spot spray from you local pet store to see if you can resolve the itching and irritation of the skin. However, if it does not improe then its best to take Loki to your vet and discuss more treatment options for his apparent skin allergy. I hope that Loki's skin improves soon! This could be either a benign or malignant growth. Based on Kane's age, it is more likely a benign growth. I recommend that you have Kane evaluated by your veterinarian to have a fine needle aspiration of the mass to find out what it is. There is not likely anything you can do at home for Ruth’s. Skin masses and blister type lesions can be benign but they can also be a skin cancer called a mass cell tumor. Additionally, masses in the mammary chain can be breast cancer. I recommend to have Ruthy examined by her veterinarian who may need to aspirate these masses to look at the cells under a microscope. I don't think this looks too concerning but if you are worried you should take him to your vet for an exam. If you want to try something on him at home, I would suggest you try this product. This appears to be a small crusted area and could be from irritation or a scratch. I would monitor this for the time being and it should fall off on its own if it is a scab.
