My dog has a nipple bubble and a hard lump. What should I do?

I can see that Sir Nicholas has a small, raised, dark lesion by his nipple. This can be a mass under the skin, which may be malignant (likely to spread) or benign (unlikely to spread). I recommend having this area looked at by a vet. They will be able to either remove the mass completely and determine exactly what it is, or take smaller samples using a needle. She may have mammary cancer which is fairly common in unspayed dogs. Your vet can perform either a biopsy or a fine needle aspirate and cytology to confirm the nature of the mass. If it comes back as mammary cancer, full screening pre-operative bloodwork as well as chest radiographs to rule out metastasis to the lungs will likely be discussed. If chest rads show that cancer has already spread to her lungs, unfortunately surgical removal under anesthesia may not be practical. Good luck-

It looks like Roxy could have a mass and/or an infection. She needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. Your vet can do a needle aspirate and/or biopsy to help diagnose and then treat. It may need to be removed.

I think it would be worthwhile having her evaluated to make sure that it does indeed look like a nipple and to ensure it is not something else like a mass or nodule. Hello. It is difficult to say exactly what this is because cysts, small tumors & other benign skin growths can all look pretty similar. We do not recommend doing any squeezing on things like this because you could inadvertently introduce bacteria back into it & then you have a real problem. You should contact your veterinarian to schedule an appointment. Only after a hands-on examination can a plan be determined. One might be to just continue to watch this (without squeezing out the contents), or to remove it, send the tissues off for pathology, & make sure this is not something worrisome. Poor Daisy! A lump in the breast can be a cancerous tumor, a benign tumor or can be an infection. I recommend to have Daisy examined by her veterinarian today if possible. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

I would continue to monitor is for any sudden changes. It should definitely get checked out by a vet in the next few days. Possible causes for this include mammary tumors, tumors not related to the mammary system, infection, or mammary hyperplasia. If it gets suddenly bigger or there is any discharge, I would see a vet sooner.
