What's this bump on my dog's inner thigh? Should I be concerned?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 11 years and 7 months old | 20 lbs

Any idea what this might be on my dogs inner thigh?

Hello, sorry to hear about Bear. Its difficult to tell exactly what that is without looking at the structure and what makes up the little nodule. That is, the cells forming the little nodule would need to be evaluated to tell exactly what that is.

Given that it is a small area, it could be removed and submitted to biopsy to determine the cellular make up. Alternatively, you can monitor to see if the nodule resolves. If it goes away within a few days, then this is likely nothing of big concern.

More severe things this could represent such as cancerous tumor can begin by looking like this. If this is indeed something more aggressive, then it may continue to grow and get worse. If so, then this should definitely be evaluated by their veterinarian. Please keep a close eye on this nodule, it should begin to improve within a few days, otherwise have your this further evaluated by your veterinarian.

This looks like an injury or an irritated growth from your photo. It’s fairly small and appears to be in the skin so if needed they can easily remove it. Hi there. Bumps like the one on Bear could be a few different things. Sometimes there can be a thorn or something else stuck beneath the skin causing the bump. It could also be a skin growth, examples of these are things like epitheliomas, mast cell tumors and lipomas. Because it's red and is causing him some irritation, I would recommend having your veterinarian check the bump. They may suggest doing a fine needle aspirate of the bump, which collects cells from within the bump to help diagnose what it is. It's not an emergency, but I would have it checked when you can. My dog has a bump that won't go away. Should I be concerned?

Its hard to say for sure what that is on Teddy since I can't actually feel the mass. Based on how it looks and the condition of the skin around it (which appears normal in the pictures), I would wonder if Teddy has some sort of clogged pore or skin cyst. Often times a cyst will feel like a firm pea under the skin and they are not painful. Typically a clogged pore can be expressed and the material will be very thick. It will likely continue to refill over and over. Cysts and clogged pores are benign lesions but can get infected (so don't traumatize the lesion). The be sure, I would recommend to take Teddy in to see his doctor and have the mass palpated. If it looks more worrisome, the doctor will recommend an aspirate to determine the origin of the lesion. best of luck with Teddy!

Hi and thanks for your request regarding Bear. Unfortunately it is difficult to give you a precise answer about this lump as a sample of it should be ideally taken to be able to diagnose it properly. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump and determine its underlying nature. Differentials include tumors and depending on the underlying nature of the lump the treatment may be different, even surgical with complete removal. My dog has a raised lump on its inner thigh. Is it an infection?

Hi. Good photo. I'm concerned about this area. It looks raised and mass like rather then an infection. There are benign and cancerous masses of the skin. It may be a deep infection as well. It is hard to say. I would recommend an exam and a cytology of this area. This will help us find out the type of cells this is made up of. Good luck

What's this tiny, painless bump on my dog's back leg near his hip?

This lump under Behr's skin is most likely something benign like a cyst or lipoma, however there is a small chance it could be something cancerous. At such a young age cancer is unlikely but not impossible. If the growth doesn't go away within a few days or it gets larger it would be a good idea to have Behr examined by a veterinarian. If necessary a small needle aspirate can be taken from the lump and looked at under the microscope to determine if it should be removed surgically. My senior dog has a small pink growth on her inner thigh. What is it?

This growth could be benign or malignant. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. This looks like it could be a hemangioma, which is a benign 'blood blister' type skin lesion, or it might be an insect bite or site of previous trauma. It would be a good idea to have your vet take a look in person if it has not resolved in the next week or so or if it seems to be bothering Bear.
