My dog's inner eye lining is dark red. Is this normal or a problem?

What you're seeing is likely the small blood vessels of the eye and pigmentation of the cornea. This is typically very normal, but if you are concerned you should take Dunbar to the vet for an ocular exam.

This just looks like an area of inflammation in the conjunctiva. It may have developed from something irritating in the eye. At this point it’s nothing to be overly concerned about. Please check it daily, it should improve and go away in a few days. If it starts to look worse then certainly a veterinary exam is indicated. Yes it can and from your description it seems that there is no problem at all affecting Bleu third eyelids or conjunctiva. I would not be worried at all. I do not see anything alarming in these photos. If you are worried the darker pigment on the inside corner of the white part of the eye, that can be normal in some breeds. Corneal hyperpigementation is usually a result of chronic rubbing. It usually causes no problems long term. If you notice any redness or mucoid discharge, or if he does not want to keep eye open, then i would have him check by your vet.

Oh my! Einston is adorable! The area I believe you are talking about is the 3rd eyelid which is in the very inside corner of each eye. It is normal for a 3rd eyelid to be white, pink or brown. And dogs that have variable fur color often have some variation in the color of their 3rd eyelids. I would be sure to have your veterinarian verify that what you are looking at is his 3rd eyelid at his next regular appointment. This is very common in smaller breed dogs. It is normal eye drainage called epiphora. As long as the drainage isn't green or yellow and Scribbles isn't favoring her eyes, then I am not concerned that it is infection. I would recommend to use a warm damp wash cloth daily to clean under the eyes. I also recommend to have the hair under the eyes trimmed short or shaved. You can ask your vet or groomer to help you with this usually for little to no cost. I do not recommend to do this yourself as it is really easily to accidentally poke their eyes without proper restraint. Finally, if you do not like the brown color it makes, then you can consider using a probiotic or angel eyes which both will SOMETIMES work to decrease the darkness in the fur. Unfortunately it doesn't always work. You can take some comfort in knowing that as long as the eye drainage is frequently cleaned and isn't causing a skin infection then the brown discoloration is strictly cosmetic. I hope this helps!
