How long does dog inner ear infection treatment take to work?

It may take several days to see improvement after starting medications. If your dog is extremely uncomfortable due to inflammation in the ear, you may ask your vet if an anti-inflammatory drug such as a steroid or NSAID can be prescribed to help with the discomfort until the ear antibiotic kicks in. If you haven't seen improvement and several days have passed, it is possible a resistant bacteria is growing in the ear and you may need a different medication.

Although you aren’t seeing any improvement yet, continue giving the medication as previously prescribed. Sometimes it can take 2 weeks to get the infection under control. Keep in mind also that the infection may be getting better but there is still some exudate/debris in the ear. If, by the time you return from your trip, there is still no improvement, make an appointment for a recheck examination with your vet. Occasionally there are resistant infections that need special medication. Hopefully this will not be the case for Lulu. Trisha should start feeling better within about 48 hours if the treatment is working. It sounds like the vet decided to hold of on a topical treatment and have you start with just cleaning. So if you clean her ears with the MalAcetic tomorrow and Thursday is she still flapping/itching then I would recommending calling her veterinarian to see if they would like to prescribe her a topical treatment. You should see improvement on the Claro within 24-48 hours of use, but it may take at least 10 days before the ear infection is fully resolved. I hope this helps.

Poor guy. It sounds like his ear infection was bad enough to possibly cause a rupture of the ear drum if he is dizzy or ataxic. If this is the case, then it can take 2-3 weeks for resolution of clinical signs as the ear drum grows back. His symptoms should not get worse and he should be showing gradual improvement if you have been treating for over a week, so if this is not the case then a rechk appt should be scheduled with your vet. In additions, your vet can prescribe some motion sickness medication to help him with his dizziness as well, so ask about this if it wasn't already prescribed. An ear infection does take longer than three days to clear up, so that could still be the cause of Nyang-nyang's ear twitching. In addition, ear infections can also be caused by yeast or ear mites, so the antibiotics may not be treating the ear infection if she has one (yeast and ear mites require different medications to treat). If she is still having trouble with the ear twitching in another 72 hours, then I would take her back into the vet for an exam.

Hello, I'm sorry to hear about your chiahuahua's ear infections. Unfortunately, ear infections can be very painful and sometimes take two to three weeks to heal. I would recommend keeping your follow up appointment with your veterinarian on Monday so that they can check his progress and determine if he is healing normally. I hope this is helpful.
