My old dog became incontinent after starting new supplements. Why?

I find that very young dogs that are spayed can get incontience. However it is not typical in older dogs no matter the method they are spayed. I would make sure a urine sample is checked for infection and crystals. If this is normal than it is possible she has developed incontience due to being spayed. Typically estrogen supplements helps the most prevent dribbling. Hope that helps

It could be that Shiloh is suffering for spay incontinence. This is due to weakening of the muscles of the urethra, and it can be treated medically. IT could also be that she has a UTI or bladder stones. I would have her seen by a vet for this behavior. The vet can diagnose what is causing it, and can prescribe medication to treat it. Peeing on herself (urinary incontinence) is likely not related to changing her food. She might have a urinary tract infection, so I suggest you take her to your veterinarian for an exam. If you can, bring a fresh urine sample with you .

We commonly see some variability in urinary incontinence. I think it probabably has to do with the cause of the incontinence and secondary issues. For example, some dogs are not necessarily incontinent (they have some ability to control their urine), but they are not strong enough to get up on their own, so they urinary where they are lying. We can also see variability in incontinence depending on water intake. If they are drinking a larger amount of water, they will have to urinate more and may not be able to control it. Finally, I think there are some nerve conditions that can vary. If the nerves that help control the bladder were affected by something like a bulging disc, those nerves can recover if the swelling associated with that condition decreases. But all of that is theoretical, and often we don't know why they improve. If bloodwork and urinalysis were all normal, you might consider asking your vet about medication for the incontinence if it occurs again. I hope that was helpful! Hi there! Sorry to hear Missy is having accidents. There certainly are medications to help with this. Usually older spayed female dogs are the ones who have these issues-due to estrogen dependent urinary incontinence. Your veterinarian will have to see Missy for an exam and probably blood work to make sure the medications are safe for her. Incuran and Proin are two frequently prescribed medications for these issues and it is usually by preference of the doctor which one is prescribed. Usually they work quite well, and most dogs take them easily with a small snack. I hope this helps!
