My dog has hives and raised spots, acting strange. What should I do?

That's not good. I wonder if Spot is suffering from a contact allergy causing his hives. Vomiting can also be a sign of an allergic reaction. I'm concerned about him and think it's best he sees a vet immediately. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. It does look like a bad case of hives. The problem with allergic reactions is that they often get worse, and can lead to breathing difficulties. Due to this, I would take Bruno into an urgent after hours clinic now.

This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling becomes too large or if your dog becomes lethargic, take him to the vet in order to get an antihistamine/steroid injection. from your description at this moment i think he is probably fine, but this can change so monitor him closely.

If these just arose out of nowhere I would be concerned they are hives and she is having an allergic reaction. Since they are on her face, I would consider this an emergency, so it would be recommended to take her in to the emergency clinic right away, where they can give her a shot of benadryl and a steroid shot to stop the reaction. In severe cases of allergic reactions the face can continue to swell and the swelling can extend to the airway, becoming life threatening, and we don't want that to happen!

Sometimes in addition to benadryl these dogs do also need steroids, so I would call your vet and let them know about this change because they may want to see her again or to change her medication. I would also consider bathing her in case the hives were a reaction to a plant she came into contact with if she spends time outdoors.

Hello, these are hives so Max is having an allergic reaction to something. He may have been bitten by something or inhaled dust & pollen that initiated the reaction. If he is acting normal, this will probably subside over the next 6-12 hours. If he is in any distress at all, itching, wheezing, drooling or vomiting, he needs veterinary attention. If he does not seem bothered by the bumps, you can try bathing him in a mild oatmeal based shampoo, using only cool water. Let the shampoo sit for about 10 minutes before rinsing. If need be you can repeat this tomorrow. If you are at all worried about how he is acting, please see your veterinarian who has the medications necessary to treat this issue.
