Dog hit by car, can't use leg or go to bathroom. What should I do?

Poor Biggie! If he is not able to put weight on the injured leg, he definitely needs to see a veterinarian as I would be concerned that he may have a fracture or dislocation. Your veterinarian can take x-rays to determine what's wrong and what treatment is needed - possible surgical repair, splinting, or rest and pain medication at home.

You'll want to confine him to a small area to minimize any further damage. Be sure to offer him plenty of fresh drinking. To help alleviate any pressure to the area when loading him into the car, wrap a towel under the abdomen and carry the back end with a towel. Be sure to watch for and notate any swelling or changes in the spine, or legs. Be sure to get in to se your doctor as soon as possible.

If he is so painful that he is unwilling or unable to walk he really must be seen by a vet for urgent pain relief and full diagnosis of the injury. Please arrange a vet visit for assessment as soon as possible to ease his discomfort and prevent any further complications

I think it is important to get back, hip and pelvis X-rays to see if any bones are broken. If there are broken bones he may need surgery to fix them. If the spine is broken that is serious. If all the bones are fine then I would be worried about neurologic problems which sadly are more serious. Neurological problems may or may not get better and need a lot of time. Be sure he is urinating, eating and drinking. If not he should be hospitalized. Sort of hospitalizing and getting a diagnosis via X-rays there is not much else to do but provide supportive care, keep him clean and warm and give him pain medications as prescribed. Besides monitoring and resting her, there isn't much more you can do at home, especially if she has internal injuries and/or any fractures or other orthopedic injuries. If she isn't walking on her hind limbs than she could have a fracture, dislocated hip, etc and may need treatment, depending on the cause. Without an x-ray, it is impossible to know the extent of her injury. She really needs to be seen by a vet to examine her and determine if treatment is needed. If you are unable to take her to a vet than you could rest her and monitor for improvement. You could use a towel sling under her belly to help get her outside to use the bathroom.

Oh poor Buddy! Unfortunately, this is a serious problem! I worry that he may have seriously injured himself. Dogs that are hit by cars can have several different types of injuries from minor scrapes and bruises to severe issues like punctured lungs, broken bones, or even a ruptured spleen or bladder. There isn't anything great you can do at home to help him. The main thing is to keep his confined and watch him closely. If you notice any labored breathing or if his gums are not a pink color then I would try to get him to the emergency clinic ASAP as it could be a life threatening emergency. I would not recommend to give him any human pain meds as most are toxic to dogs. I hope this helps and he is okay!

I'm so sorry to hear about Kamie. It certainly sounds like she is in a lot of pain. I would recommend having your veterinarian examine her again. Sometimes we are not able to determine the full extent of their injuries right after an accident, but are able to make a better diagnosis after a day or 2. Your veterinarian may also need to prescribe or adjust her pain medication. I would not recommend giving her any over the counter pain medication without speaking with your veterinarian since some will increase the risk of bleeding and may interact with pain medication that your veterinarian may prescribe.
