Dog hit by car, can't walk on leg. Should I take him to the vet?

It sounds like your dog is likely in extreme pain, and he needs veterinary attention immediately. He may have fractures, internal injuries and bleeding, and may even have neurological issues from being hit by the car. If you mean that he is unable to urinate, that is a medical emergency, and requires immediate veterinary care. Your vet will assess him and recommend appropriate treatment, which will likely include pain medication, imaging and possibly surgical repair. Besides monitoring and resting her, there isn't much more you can do at home, especially if she has internal injuries and/or any fractures or other orthopedic injuries. If she isn't walking on her hind limbs than she could have a fracture, dislocated hip, etc and may need treatment, depending on the cause. Without an x-ray, it is impossible to know the extent of her injury. She really needs to be seen by a vet to examine her and determine if treatment is needed. If you are unable to take her to a vet than you could rest her and monitor for improvement. You could use a towel sling under her belly to help get her outside to use the bathroom.

If things have not improved after seeing your veterinarian, I recommend that you have him reevaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. If he is so painful that he is unwilling or unable to walk he really must be seen by a vet for urgent pain relief and full diagnosis of the injury. Please arrange a vet visit for assessment as soon as possible to ease his discomfort and prevent any further complications

If it is a dislocation it will need to be reduced. If this is done earlier, it is more likely that surgery will not be required.
