My dog has fever, red gums, lost appetite, and gained weight. Why?

Poor guy. Not every pet with a fever has an infection, so if the antibiotic isn’t working it’s either because there is no infection, the infection is internal, or the antibiotic is not the right kind of antibiotic for the infection. Your pet needs additional testing to sort this out and make sure we are on the right track with treatment. I would start with baseline bloodwork and a urinalysis. Best to take your pet back in to your vet or to another vet for a second opinion here so that we can get a proper diagnosis and tailored treatment based on your pets specific problem. I'm sorry all your dogs are suddenly sick! Thank you for providing pictures of one of your dogs. From the picture of the teeth, I see areas of redness, but they appear to me to be localized around the teeth itself. It makes me think those red areas may be due to gingivitis, but without seeing your pups in person, I can't say for certain. When I hear that all dogs in a family have suddenly gotten ill, I think that they have either gotten into something rotten or something toxic. Given that all your dogs are ill, the best thing to do is have them seen by a vet as soon as possible. The vet can diagnose what is causing their symptoms, and can treat them. Poor girl. I am unsure if she is spayed or not, but if she isn't she could have an infected uterus (pyometra), overheated, a current tick borne disease (i.e. Ehrlichia is a possible cause if she was currently re-infected), etc. Skin infections very rarely will cause a systemic increase in body temperature, so this is likely not the cause. I am sorry there are no vets open right now, but it is good that she i still eating well and relatively alert. I would make a point to get her seen as soon as the vet opens for some bloodwork analysis to start. I’m sorry to hear Crispy isn’t doing well. I would highly encourage blood work if that hasn’t been done. The white gums and fever concern me about infections that can cause anemia, like ehrlichia. Nancy may have an infected tooth in her mouth that is causing the discomfort and fever. I would recommend taking her to the vet to have an oral exam performed to look for a problem. You may also want to feed her soft or canned food until you determine the problem because thenkibble could further irritate the problem.

Normal temperature in dogs can be up to 102.5 degrees so I don't think he has a fever, but the heavy panting and increase in water intake can indicate he is in pain or has an issue such as metabolic disease causing distress and symptoms. It would be best to bring him to your vet, especially if he also has sores or skin issues in addition to these symptoms. Your vet will likely want to do some tests such as bloodwork to help determine the cause of all his symptoms and get him on the right treatment plan.

Hi. The pale gums and weight loss are very serious signs! I don't know the age, or sex, or history, so it's a bit hard to review the most likely possibilities. But with pale gums and weight loss, 8d be concerned about internal bleeding, cancer, immune mediated disease, parasites, k8dney disease, and many more. An exam, lab work, and x-rays will be needed to get down to the the potential cause. I would recommend getting him seen right away.
