Why are all my dogs suddenly sick with fever, lethargy, and red gums?

Hi there, It sounds like your dog may have an infection based on the fever and red gums. The weight gain could be due to thyroid disease, or something affecting her endocrine system. It is best to seek veterinary care if the others are not recovering. I worry that they will become dehydrated from losing fluid in the stool and vomit even if they are drinking some. An upper respiratory tract infection is usually indicated by coughing, sneezing, eye and/or nose discharge and bringing up white foamy material. The diarrhea may or may not be related. They will need to see their veterinarian if their symptoms persist. A lot of times an antibiotic will be prescribed. In the meantime, encourage them to continue drinking so that they do not become dehydrated. It is generally safe to hold a dog off of food for 18-24 hours to rest the GI tract. It sounds like from your description that Doc Brown is sick, and I would be thinking that he could be suffering from a respiratory infection or allergies. Feeling sick would lead him to be more irritable as well, and it is possible he could have a fever. A dog's normal temperature is 101-102.5F, and anything above 102.5F is a fever. I'd have him seen by a vet in the next day or two. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms, and can prescribe medication to treat him. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Poor girl. I am unsure if she is spayed or not, but if she isn't she could have an infected uterus (pyometra), overheated, a current tick borne disease (i.e. Ehrlichia is a possible cause if she was currently re-infected), etc. Skin infections very rarely will cause a systemic increase in body temperature, so this is likely not the cause. I am sorry there are no vets open right now, but it is good that she i still eating well and relatively alert. I would make a point to get her seen as soon as the vet opens for some bloodwork analysis to start. It sounds like your dog is sick. The drooling can be due to nausea, and the lethargy, vomiting, anorexia, and diarrhea could be due to a severe GI illness, eating something rotten, pancreatitis, or a foreign body. I would take your dog into a vet right away for an exam, he sounds quite ill with all these symptoms, and he needs to be medically treated ASAP.

If she has pale gums then she needs to be examined by a vet immediately to determine the cause and treat, especially if she also has abnormal breathing. Please call your vet or go to an emergency clinic. She could have an infection, parasite, clotting/bleeding problem, hemolytic anemia, mass, etc. and may need immediate treatment.
