My dog in heat had an accidental tie. What's the pregnancy chance?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bernese Mountain Dog | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 5 months old | 85 lbs

Hello, I have a little problem: I have a Bernese Mountain dog (female) who is over 1 year old. She is in heat but she was mated by the neighbour's dog who is only 11 months old (a Boxer). After the mating they were attached to each other. Now my question is: how big is the chance that she is pregnant? Because if my dad finds out, he'll be very, very angry.

There is a fairly good chance a mating with a tie may result in a pregnancy. You'll need to wait about 4 weeks after the mating to confirm via blood work, palpation or abdominal ultrasound. It will need to be confirmed by your veterinarian.
There is a canine version of the "morning after" pill but you'll need to contact your veterinarian as soon as possible for it to be administered for maximum effect.
