My dog has hard skin growths with blood that regrow. What are they?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These are not growths, these are actually ticks. The reason they are growing is because they are filling up with blood. These should be removed. This is something your veterinarian should be able to do for you very easily. A good flea and tick preventative to consider to try to prevent this is Frontline plus. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It's hard to make out where the white object attaches to her skin. Dog and cats can form keratinized horny growths on their skin. I recommend making an appointment with your Vet to have it removed. If it is small enough maybe they can remove it with a local block. I hope this helps and I wish you the best!

This cannot be completely assessed just by looking at pictures or a description and usually requires sampling such as fine needle aspiration to determine its origin. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Thank you for including the pictures. Hard keratin growths such as what Max likely has are typically benign, but can be annoying. I will typically just numb up the area and remove it so it doesn’t get caught or rip off. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I recommend taking Sable to the vet to look at the growth closer and find out what it is. The vet can stick a needle in it and look at the cells under a microscope to determine if it’s cancerous or not. Because the tissue/skin is fragile it likely won’t stop bleeding and may need to be surgically removed. I would leave it alone until the vet looks at it so you don’t disrupt the blood clot that forms. Good luck and kisses to Sable!

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I can definitely see the small red bumps your are referring to, and agree that they appear scabbed over. This can be caused by a localized skin infection, an infestation with mites or fleas, or even an allergic reaction. It is likely that these conditions may be causing Hump to be itchy, and she may be having these scabs from scratching. A vet can perform some tests including blood work, and taking some samples from Hump's skin to figure out what is going on and prescribe an appropriate treatment plan. I hope this helps!

These are benign but abnormal proliferation of the most superficial layer of the skin which creates structures similar to ''nails'' or any keratinized organ (horns, nails for example). Microscopically this material is a mix of cellular debris. It is usually nothing to be worried about as they come with old age.
