My dog has a hard lump on his leg after grooming. What could it be?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | West Highland White Terrier | Male | neutered | 11 years and 2 months old

At clipping the woman said on my dogs back leg it started bleeding. 2 weeks later we notice a hard ball like a marble at the area she nicked with the clippers. We have never noticed this before .

That looks like it may be a growth or an abscess. At his age, it is best to have your vet check the area and aspirate some cells to see if it is pus for an abscess or cells for a growth. From there, you can tell if medication or surgery is indicated. If it does not bother him and every thing else is normal, then it does not need to be seen as an emergency basis.
