My dog has a gunky mouth infection near her canines. What can I do?

Poor girl. Since this area is around her mouth, it is best to only use dog formulated products that are safe to be ingested. Any oral rinse containging Chlorhexidine solution from your local pet store can be used on Rosie until she can be seen. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching (if any). Any topical product you apply will promptly be licked off. This could be localized infection or inflammation. An allergic reaction or mass cannot be ruled out by image alone. Legally, we are prohibited from telling to medicate the spot in the absence of a physical exam. Ideally, Lana should be physically examined by your veterinarian for a firm diagnosis. She may need systemic treatment as opposed to topical. In the meantime, place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent pawing or rubbing. Keep the area as clean and dry as possible. Wipe her mouth after she drinks or eats.

You can try to use chlorhexidine containing pads (such as the Douxo chlorhexidine 3% PS pads) to clean the are twice daily for 7 days. You may find these online or at your local pet store. I would recommend using a mixture of betadine and saline or water so that you have a light brown solution and use this to clean the area. I would then apply a wound cream such as Sentry Wound Ointment, which you can find online or at PetCo. Monitor for worsening and if the area becomes swollen or begins to show signs of discharge, I would have Luna examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. This sore could just be from an injury. I would gently clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep him from scratching at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I'd also have him seen by a vet if the sore doesn't appear to be healing over the next week. I will put a link below on how to make an Ecollar at home. From the photo, Puddin’s mouth does look red and I am suspicious of an infection or an allergic reaction. I recommend to protect the area from any trauma by having her wear an Elizabethan collar at all times. I also recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian to get this cleared up.
