Dog has pink spot under chin, now a new one. Is it an infection?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 3 years and 5 months old | 65 lbs

On Thursday, I noticed that my dog had a pink spot under her chin where her fur had seemingly been rubbed off. Today (sunday) I found that the initial spot has scanned over but now it seems that a new spot appeared directly above it. Should I be worried? I thought that it was most likely from her rubbing her nose on a rock or something until I saw the new cut today, that’s when I began to have doubts about the seriousness of this issue.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This looks like a focal infection. You can try to use chlorhexidine containing pads (such as the Douxo chlorhexidine 3% PS pads) to clean the are twice daily for 7 days. You may find these online or at your local pet store. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good night!

Lesions like that commonly represent infected follicles, ingrown hair or allergies. I recommend to have Daisy examined by the veterinarian who can give you a cream or medicated wipe for pets to help keep the area clean. Also using ceramic or metal bowls can help. Wash all her bowls and toys once a week. I hope this helps.

I apologize, I don't understand if you are saying the chin is itchy or not. If the spot on her chin is itchy, you can try a 1% hydrocortisone cream once a day for a few days. The white spot on her hair may just be change in the pigment of the hair due to hanging, and is not a concern.

I recommend you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as this will likely require local therapy with cleaning of the site, pain control medications and antibiotics. My dog has a pink spot on his face below his nose. What to do?

Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!! Sorry to see that Tiger has this lesion. It’s possible that this is a localized skin infection with some deeper swelling and involvement. That would be called a pyoderma and these lesions can be superficial or even a little deeper. This could be a primary skin problem or secondary to trauma, abrasion, allergies, exposure to ectoparasites (fleas/ticks), or even a tumor. I would advise anything lasting more than a few days to a week and not getting better, would need an exam by your veterinarian to assess. Hopefully this resolves over the next few days but if it’s not getting smaller/better, I would advise Tiger seeing your veterinarian. Thank you and good luck!

My dog has blisters on his chin. Is it a skin infection or pyoderma?

This is not papillomavirus but in fact looks like a skin infection. I would rec bringing him back to the vet and having them evaluate his chin. Typically with these I will treat with antibiotics and sometimes a steroid to clear it up. I recommend swapping out any plastic bowls and rec cleaning bowls every single day, especially the water bowl. Also keeping his chin clean will be very helpful and drying it off after he drinks.
