What's the cost to remove my dog's growing gum mass causing drooling?

An aggressive mass may need a more invasive surgery then a benign mass and this would likely differ in prices as well. You should have your veterinarian evaluate this mass to determine if there is evidence of aggressive, cancerous cells. If none, a likely mass removal for this site may range from $700-1000 depending on your veterinarian fees. It could be more or less. Dental cleanings are particularly variable in price depending upon the severity of dental disease. The reason for this is because in many cases, dogs can require many tooth extractions which is both tedious and time consuming. This will extend anesthesia time and thus the cost of the procedure. As far as the mass on the eye, depending on the location, this would be something that could be removed while under anesthesia for the dental procedure. Determining what the growth is would require a biopsy with a laboratory. Hope this makes sense.

The price of surgery and submitting the masses for biopsy are hospital and regional dependent. I recommend finding a vet for an exam and to obtain an estimate. Where I work (notoriously inexpensive) it would cost about $500-600 to just remove it (guess with out seeing a picture) and the biopsy would be an additional $165 for one mass. I wish you the best.

There is no alternative at this stage other than a full dental assessment to remove the tartar and infection and relieve pain by extracting the loose and damaged teeth which would then allow the gums to heal. Contact your local humane society for advice on subsidised care if you cannot provide for his care. Toothpaste, rinses and dental chews will not be sufficient at this stage and it is not appropriate to ignore the current pain and infection you describe

Possible causes of the mass are: a benign over growth of gum tissue, an epulis, or cancerous growths. Some epulids are: Fibromatous, ossifying, and acanthomatous. Acanthomatous epuli, in particular, are highly invasive to the bone and are usually located on the front part of the lower jaw. It is sadly impossible to tell from just looking at the mass to say what it could be. I recommend you make an appointment with your Vet. Lucky will have to go under anesthesia, have dental X-rays taken of the area and the mass biopsied or removed, if able. I hope this helps! I wish Lucky the best!

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Unfortunately, Boxer's are predisposed to developing this type of mass in the mouth. These can be removed surgically but commonly come back. I typically recommend removing these if they are increasing in size or if they are causing a problem and the dog is biting down on the epulis when chewing food causing the mass to bleed.
