My puppy grunts when raising head, has a throat lump. What's wrong?

It is difficult to say what the problem is without doing full clinical examination on Agua. However, it is quite common that the dogs' owners report that something 'doesn't feel right' in the throat but actually, it is normal anatomical structure. Throat area just can feel 'strange' in some dogs but there is nothing abormal there. Please, take Agua to your local vet for full clinical examination. If your vet is unsure (and for example he will suspect a mass in the throat, which sometimes happens), he will recommend examination of the throat under general anaesthesia and/or neck x-ray.

If it is an occasional occurrence then it may be nothing abnormal but if he is doing it frequently then he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. He could have a respiratory infection and/or inflammation and need an antibiotic and and anti-inflammatory to treat.

The symptoms she is experiencing such as trying to clear her throat, may actually be a cough. Coughing and wheezing can be indicative of an upper respiratory infection. She may need chest x-rays to confirm an upper respiratory infection and may be placed on antibiotics. I hope this helps and I wish you and Luna the best!

Hi there! I would recommend having this checked out by your vet when you're able to. A wheezing sound in the throat, hoarseness, and/or a raspy quality to her panting or breathing are all concerning for something interfering with normal air flow in the back of her throat. This could be due to laryngeal paralysis, a growth or tumor, a foreign body, or something simple like a respiratory infection causing some swelling or inflammation in this area. Your vet can do a complete oral exam under sedation if needed to get a better look at her throat, and may also recommend x-rays or other testing to help check for abnormalities.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Elphaba. I worry that bumps you have noticed are enlarged lymph nodes. I would try to feel other areas on her body for similar and symmetrical bumps. Lymph nodes are also found in front of the shoulders, in the armpits and groin as well as behind the knees. She will need to see a veterinarian to have her condition diagnosed, but enlarged lymph nodes can indicate serious disease. I hope this information helps!

If there are lumps on his throat and he is having upper respiratory symptoms, I would recommend having x-rays of his upper airway done to see if there is any compression or deviation of the airway due to one of the lumps. He may also be dealing with allergies, in which case you can try an antihistamine. Most people use 1mg per 1lb of body weight every 12 hours for Benadryl. The vet can also insert a small needle into the masses and examine them under a microscope for a better understanding of what the lumps might be. I hope this helps! Having a cough when excited would make me concerned that her heart or lungs are not functioning correctly. It could something as mild as a lingering infection or as severe as lung cancer or heart failure. In terms of the lumps and bumps, those sound like masses, which could be cancerous or benign. She needs to go to the vet for an exam and chest x-rays, and then the masses can be sampled to determine if they are concerning once you know how severe the issue in her chest is.
