Why is my dog's pee green after spay surgery? Should I worry?

Sometimes they will have discolored urine if there is still a little blood stuck in the vulva from the surgery or if they didn't drink much water yesterday. I would watch her closely and make sure she is getting plenty of water. If the urine continues to stay dark or if she isn't feeling well in any other way, I would have your vet take a look at her to ensure she hasn't developed an urinary tract infection. It is definitely an odd finding for the urine to be green in a dog and would actually be more suggestive of severe muscle or kidney injury. If this were a reptile or bird with green urine then I would be more suspicious of liver disease. I'm actually suspicious that the green frothy substance was bile-tinged vomit rather than urine. They can have vomit that looks like this when they are vomiting profusely and on an empty stomach. Either way, this is not a condition that I would wait on much longer. It's best if you can take your dog to an emergency vet as soon as possible. They will be able to have a better understanding of her condition and can at-least give some treatment to make her feel better. But the green color could also indicate the breakdown of red blood cells, possibly due to a urinary tract infection. If you think Luna may have eaten something odd, this will pass, but if the green persists, please have Luna examined by your vet at your earliest convenience.

She could have a uterine stump infection (the part of the uterus that is left), a urinary tract infection or a vaginitis. Harley should be seen by the Vet that did the surgery today before the weekend. They will likely put her on antibiotics to see if that takes care of it. Good luck!

You should call the vet and give him/her an update so they know what is going on with your dog. Your vet may want to see her or just ask you to bring in a urine sample to check for an infection. If she has a urinary tract infection, your vet may prescribe an antibiotic, unless she is already on an antibiotic post-spay.

Pigmented urine could be completely normal in male rabbits (entire and soon after castration). If signs persist for more than 48hours a check up is required, otherwise it is nothing to be worried about. That is odd and unfortunately, it's a little hard to know what that is. It looks like there are flecks of more solid material in there which makes me lean toward vomit or a discharge from her vulva. Green coloration is always worrisome because it can signify significant infection or rat bait poisoning (which is green/blue or a combination). I do recommend to have her examined today to be safe. Show the vet your photo. Check the house and yard for any rat/mouse bait. Look for anything she could have gotten into that could be this color. Syptoms will not show up for a few days. A serious infection in the uterus called a pyometra can also cause a greenish discharge.
