Why does my pet have a gray spot on their eye with no pain?

A blurry spot can mean that you pet either has a scar on the cornea or it could indicate a corneal ulcer, depending on how this looks. There is also the potential it could be nuclear sclerosis, if it is a deeper opacity that you are seeing. Please submit a photo of the eye in question for clarification on what this likely is, or have your vet do a physical exam to confirm. If it is a corneal ulcer, it needs to be confirmed with an eye test through your veterinarian and then treated with medication. Corneal ulcers however cause excessive blinking and eye discharge. Nuclear sclerosis is common in older cats, and I'm not sure how old your cat is, but they don't require any treatment.. And corneal scars are basically scarring from a previous corneal injury, which typically are permanent and don't require treatment. I wish you the best moving forward with your fur baby. Take care.

It is hard to say exactly what the issue may be with Draco's eye without performing an ocular exam on him and running a few tests on the eye first, but I can offering a possibility. Spots on the cornea (clear part of the eye) itself can indicate a corneal ulcer or breaks in the cornea. These can be painful and uncomfortable. You may notice tearing or frequent discharge from the eye. Your veterinarian can diagnose a corneal ulcer with an ocular exam and a few tests. It is treatable with medication. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is a little difficult to see due to the flash, but if the area is in the eye itself, it may be the beginning of a cataract. If you are referring to the area in the corner of the eye, closes to the nose, it is normal for the skin around the eye to have a little less hair. Cataracts are very common in dogs, especially as they get older but may be a sign of an underlying health condition such as diabetes. I recommend d having Cooper seen by a vet if you believe there is something abnormal about his eye. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m not surprised at the progression in Gracie’s eye- the cloudy spot is likely a clot from the blood. Based on location I’m guessing this was trauma (whacked her head playing or running, fighting with another dog, etc etc). However, it’s impossible to tell without an eye exam exactly which compartment of the eye that clot is in. My concern is that if it’s in the front chamber of the eye, it could signal uveitis- which in turn can hint at serious systemic disease (fungal infections, tick borne diseases, etc.). Long story short, I’d have the vet check it out to make sure it’s not something we should be more worried about. Best of luck to you and Gracie!

What a beautiful face! It almost looks like this might simply be an "eye booger," so blink her eyes and see if it moves. If it moves, you can use a wet cotton ball and wipe her eye, this should wipe it away. If its not moving when she blinks, and its adhered to the cornea (front surface of the eye), as long as she isn't pawing at it or squinting like she's painful and as long as she's otherwise acting normally, just make an appointment at your convenience. If it seems to bothering her, though, get her in more urgently. If she's pawing at it at all, put an Ecollar on her to prevent her from causing damage to her eye. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is extremely difficult to say what is going on with Jules's eye. Eyes need to be examined with an ophthalmoscope in order to get a good view. Just looking at a photo from one angle is not enough. I cannot tell if the issue is on the cornea or actually inside the eye. It is best to have him examined in person by your vet so they can use the ophthalmoscope to get a good look. If it is on the cornea then it may be just a scar from a previous injury (one you may not have even noticed). It could also be what is called a "Florida spot". If it is inside the eye it could be an iris cyst or even an iris melanoma. Again, I really cannot tell from a photo. It is not an emergency but try to get Jules to your vet in the next week or so. It's a little difficult to tell from the pictures which layer of the eye the opacity is in, but I will discus the most common reasons for an opacity in the outermost aspect of the eye (the cornea). The first possibility is that if Lily had an ulceration of her eye, that the area could have scarred in which will result in tissue that is more white. I would have expected that you would have noticed that here eye was red, or she was squinting or tearing if that were the case. The most common reason that a corneal opacity will appear without any injury to the eye is actually a benign fat or cholesterol deposit. We don't know why some dogs develop them, but they tend to develop them in the other eye over time as well. I would recommend having your veterinarian examine Lily to verify that is what they think is going on. If that is the case, then there isn't any reason for concern. If Lily's eye is red or if she is squinting or rubbing her eye, please have your vet examine her right away. I hope that was helpful and answered your question.
