My dog is uncomfortable after surgery. Can I give her old tramadol?

Poor Filamena! I am sure this is a stressful experience for you and her. I am glad she has good pain medication support. Tramadol has a wide dose range and dosing frequency range so if you feel like her current level of pain is not well-managed on the current dose or dosing interval this may be able to be adjusted with a call to her doctor. Also if you feel like she is still painful with these medications your veterinarian could recommend adding on something else in the short-term. Additionally Huskies are a very sensitive breed so she may be feeling a little bit anxious as well so you may be able to discuss a mild sedative with your veterinarian to see if this helps her rest and remain relaxed in this short-term period. It's also possible if this just happened today that she may be having some side effects from any pain medications given at the clinic which should be better over the next 24 hours. Also make sure her splint is comfortable and not causing any toe swelling that might indicate it is too tight and uncomfortable for her. That should not be a problem. The only risk is that Tramadol won't be effective. I would recommend to have Gum Gum checked if the signs (pain and inappetence) are not getting any better in the next 12-24hours.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I see this sort of thing quite commonly in small dogs and the question always is: is it stomach pain or back pain. These little guys can easily hurt their backs and so they tense their abdominal muscles. They also don’t want you to touch them for fear it might tweak their back even more. Because we don’t know yet, I’d refrain from giving anything tonight as we don’t want to interfere with whatever your vet decides to give tomorrow. Tramadol is a safe pain medication but it can slow the GI tract so let’s skip it for now. For tonight, just let Rigby rest alone. Best of luck to you and Rigby!

Sadly, we cannot give out drug dosages online. Sorry! I would recommend calling your veterinarian as they can prescribe this for you. Given the fall, however, an exam would be worthwhile. There are places on the jaw that can fracture, and this would need to be repaired ASAP. Poor girl!

The wound looks perfect. Sonetimes they shake because of the after egfects of aneasthetic, but strong pain killers such as tramadol can make dogs feel strange. I would suggest stopping the tramadol now and see how she gets on.

Legally, I cannot recommend you give her the tramadol, I can't say it's safe without seeing her in person. You should call your vet now to see if it's safe. I recommend resting her for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a leash, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. Please do not give her any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I hope this helps!
