Is 150mg Tramadol safe for my 63lb dog after neuter surgery?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 1 year and 5 months old | 63 lbs

My dog was neutered yesterday they prescribed him tramadol 50mg. It says give 3 tabs twice a day. He weighs 63lb. Is that the right dose? It seems like too much.

Hi there,

Tramadol has a wide dosing range. I would start on the low end and give him 100 mg (2 tablets) am and pm and see how he does. If he seems painful, you can do the 150 mg dose am and pm.

I hope that helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
