Help! My dog gets into dirty laundry when I'm not home. What to do?

There are a couple of things you can do to keep the diaper on Panda. You can invest in diaper suspenders, which keeps the diaper in place. Distract her with a whistle, a noise-making device, or clapping when she attempts chew on the diaper or remove it. She will learn to associate an unpleasant noise with removing the diaper, and will stop doing it. When dogs are bored, they can chew on things or attempt to destruct items. I would keep Panda busy and occupied with chew toys, puzzle toys that she has to solve to get a treat, or a Kong toy that has been filled with peanut butter and frozen. These things should keep her distracted from her diaper.

You are correct, you can’t punish her without catching her in the act. The easiest thing is to either put the trash can in an area she can’t reach it or put her in a crate. You could also try a different kind of trash can. It’s hard to train a dog not to do something when you can’t catch them in the act. Keep the door to your bedrom closed. If you are letting him be on any furniture in the house, stop. Once he is denied access to your bed, he may transfer his "bathroom" to a couch or chair. Crate him when you can't watch him, and do not give him free run of your home. Keep him on a leash at all times if you need to (you can attachthe end through your belt loop to keep your hands free). This way, if he starts to go in the house, you can give him a firm "NO!" and take him right outside. If he is not leashed, you'll have to catch him, which is a problem for two reasons: (1) it will become a game to him, and (2) by the time you get him, he will forget what he did wrong. The easiest thing to do it block his access to them. Do not allow him in your bedroom, and put away any other throw pills in house. If you see Toto with one, take it away, and replace it with a toy. Find toys that he enjoys, and make sure he has access to them at all times. Praise him and give him treats when he plays with appropriate toys to reinforce that behavior.

You can try Bitter Apple spray, but I cannot guarantee that it won't stain fabrics, so you may want to spot test it first. Specifically regarding underwear, socks, etc; it is very important to get all family members to use a covered hamper so that these items are not lying around. Socks and underwear are VERY common causes of intestinal obstructions that require surgery. I understand your reservations about using a crate, however, most dogs actually like a crate, when its introduced as a safe recluse for the dog, and never as a punishment. Initially when introducing a crate, you don't close the dog in, rather get them comfortable with it as a nice place to rest. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This can be hard if Kimi goes off when you aren't looking. I would crate her/confine in a room or keep her the room you are doing chores in. You can use a leash or close the door. Hopefully this is something she will grow out of in a few years. It is a bit odd that she does this WHILE you are home as most dogs destroy things when owners leave out of anxiety. I think your issue is more easily solved with the above. I would also consider using a Kong to stuff with yummy things like peanut butter or give her something to chew on. Good luck

There are special doggie diapers that you can get for Panda from the pet store, and I would recommend using those. I would not let her outside alone, and when you do take her outside, keep her on a lead at all times, and away from places where male unneutered dogs might be (such as a dog park). This will keep her from having a pregnancy, which is important because it's never recommended to breed a dog on her first heat. She will not be mature enough, both physically and behaviorally.
