Dog gas: What are the symptoms & how do I treat it safely?

Poor Bruno. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Do not give him any human medications.

I’m so sorry to hear about Murphy! Unfortunately these cases are hard because we don’t know what the underlying cause is. Does gastric distress include vomiting and diarrhea or just vomiting? Possible next steps might be a parvo test, bloodwork (including a pancreatitis check), or an abdominal ultrasound. Unfortunately, It could be a toxin, an anaphylactoid reaction, or several other things that are not easy to diagnose. Certainly symptomatic care with anti nausea medication, anti-diarrheal medication, and IV or subcutaneous (under the skin) fluids are the mainstay of treatment for these types of symptoms regardless of cause. Head into the emergency vet if Murphy had vomited more than twice or if he seems listless, weak, or mentally dull. Best of luck to you and Murphy!

If Buddy looks bloated and is not feeling well, I would recommend having him examined by a veterinarian to ensure that there is not another problem causing the bloating. If medication is given and you do not know what the problem is, it could make things worse.

You can give him some gas drops to see if that helps. You can actually use the Children's Gas Drops like this one: https://www.target.com/p/little-remedies-gas-relief-digestive-health-treatments-1-fl-oz/-/A-77594295 He can have 0.6mls by mouth (to the 2nd line of the dropper) up to every 6 hours as needed. If you have to give it for more than 2 days I would be a bit worried and at that stage he should see a vet. Hope this helps. Oh no. Poor Rocky. He may benefit from anti-gas over the counter medicine if that's the case. Since we haven't seen him in person and actually examined him, we can't recommend a particular medicine to use, but your vet should be able to recommend the appropriate one for him and his size. You can also try gently massaging his belly to move the gas around. For the future you should consider placing him on an easily digestible food such Iams limited ingredient or the Innova (Evo) brand for sensitive stomach. However, I am a little suspicious that this may not be all that is going on with him, especially if he is as painful as you describe or doesn't respond to the anti-gas therapy. It may be beneficial to have the vet take another look at him to ensure there is nothing else going on there. I hope Rocky feels better soon.

It sounds as Buzz is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti nausea injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

By far the most common cause of too much gas in a dog is due to dietary indiscretion or difficulty in the digestion of its current diet. I would recommend gradually changing Elmo's food to something different over the course of About a Week. You can also use human products such as Gas-X two help reduce the amount of flatulence that Elmo is having. Gas-X is not a drug that is labeled for dogs and cats so there is no agreed-upon dose. I would suggest doing some reading online to find the dose that you are most comfortable administering. Other less common causes of increased flatulence would include more serious diseases such as gastrointestinal infectious or inflammatory process, liver disease, or pancreatitis. Hope this helps!
