My dog has diarrhea for 2 days and won't eat. When to see vet?

Hi my we 1 yr Yorkshire terrier has had diahoria for 2days hasn't been eating thinking he maybe picked something up out walking . How long should I wait before taking him to vet plz???

If he is otherwise bright and alert, eating and not vomiting, most cases will resolve within 3-5days - a probiotic/fiber supplement such as fortiflora or canikur can be very helpful to speed recovery alongside a bland or specialist intestinal diet. A check up would be recommended if there is any vomiting, weakness or fever

Hi. It may be he needs a bit more time for the meds to work. In addition, you can feed rice and a little spoon of canned pumpkin to bulk up feces. If not better by Monday, then I'd take Zero back in. Good luck.

Poor guy. I suspect that either Romeo needs a probiotic and bland diet as well, or he may have underlying disease that needs to be treated for directly. I would suggest getting him on a probiotic first to see if that makes a difference, especially if he is eating well now and has good energy level. I would only recommend Culturelle over the counter, given daily or Proviable (but usually only available online) for the next 10 days. . You can also start a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese for the next 4-7 days, then slowly transition him back to his normal diet. If there is still no improvement within 2-3 days, then a recheck appt is needed for possible bloodwork to ensure there are no other underlying diseases (pancreatitis, kidney disease, liver disease).

I would recommend that you have Smallz checked out by the vet. A poor appetite and diarrhea can be caused by a number of things, but if he is having that much diarrhea, then he will become dehydrated quickly. The vet will do an exam, discuss his vaccination and medical history, and may recommend diagnostics based on what they suspect is going on.

Dog diarrhea for 36 hours, eating & acting normal. When to see vet?

There are many reasons why dogs develop diarrhea. Some of these reasons are that they are something they shouldn't like trash, fatty foods, or possibly ate something that isn't food at all, such as a piece of a toy, stick, or stone. A dog may also develop diarrhea from parasites, ingesting a toxin, or some sort of infectious disease, among many other possibilities. My general cutoff if a dog is eating and drinking well and acting normally is 36 hours without the diarrhea resolving likely warrants a trip to the veterinarian. Your vet will examine Natty Boh and may recommend abdominal radiographs and possibly some bloodwork. The vet may prescribe an antidiarrhea medication and because diarrhea can lead to dehydration, they may offer to give her some fluids either under her skin (subcutaneously or in an IV). Until you can get Natty Boh to the veterinarian I would recommend making sure she is drinking well. You can also try a bland diet of plain boiled boneless skinless chicken breast and white rice to help settle her GI tract until she can be examined by her vet. I hope this was helpful!

Puppy has diarrhea for 2 days. When should I worry and what to do?

If Kiki has mild diarrhea but is acting normal and has a good appetite, she may have ingested something she shouldn't have - puppies explore the world with their mouth, and sometimes they eat things that can upset their GI tracts! You can give her some bland food (white rice and lowfat cooked chicken) and see if it improves in the next day or two. Many mild cases of diarrhea are self-limiting and will resolve with bland food. If, however, the diarrhea is severe, or is accompanied by a decreased appetite or vomiting, or continues more than a couple days, Kiki should be seen by a vet. Diarrhea can be caused by many things including stress, diet changes, and infections, and your vet will be able to help differentiate what's going on and start her on medication if needed. My puppy has diarrhea, won't eat, and seems sick. When to see vet?

If Bruno has had diarrhea and decrease appetite for 3 days I would recommend a visit to the vet. A young pup may have parasites, viral disease or a foreign body that can cause diarrhea. But at his age he can become debilitated quickly when sick so a vet visit at this point is probably a good idea. I hope he recovers quickly.

I recommend giving Chico a bland diet, boiled chicken and white rice. If he becomes lethargic, there is blood or he isn't eating then I recommend taking Chico to a veterinarian. Also if the diarrhea isn't resolving after another day I would consider taking him to a veterinarian. Why does my dog have diarrhea on and off for days? What should I do?

These signs could be compatible with a colitis, which is an inflammation of the last part of the intestine, the colon, usually related to dietary indiscretion. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. A probiotic like pro-kolin can be added to the diet. I would definitely recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. My dog is vomiting, has diarrhea, and won't eat for days. Vet needed?

Hi there. Dogs can certainly get a minor upset stomach due to an infection or something they ate, but this should normally resolve within 24 hours. Since Brutus has been sick for three days now, I would definitely recommend having him seen, as this may be a more serious problem. He may have a GI problem such as pancreatitis or a foreign body in his intestines, a systemic illness like liver or kidney disease, or may have ingested something toxic. Your veterinarian can do blood work and x-rays if needed to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.
