My dog is sick: gagging, coughing, and has a runny nose. What's wrong?

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 30 days old | 5 lbs

My dog has been gagging and just seems overall sick. She does not eat much and will randomly start makeing a coughing sort of noise. She has also been having dripping from her nose. Is there any way to know What may be wrong?

Poor girl. It wounds like she may have an upper respiratory infection (kennel cough). She needs to be seen by your vet for a thorough exam and then placed on a short course of antibiotics to help her recover. I would recommend taking her in as soon as you can, since she is so young and sensitive to illness.

Based on the symptoms that you are describing it sounds like she might have an upper respiratory infection (similar to the human cold). This is not uncommon in younger dogs as they are exposed to new things in their environment. It is possible that she is experiencing a post nasal drip leading to irritation and nausea.

I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian so that they can examine her and discuss the need for further diagnostics such as chest x-rays. Based on these findings they can make treatment recommendations such as antibiotics and an anti-nausea medication. If she is able to keep water down and does not vomit that up I think it is ok to have her seen by a veterinarian tomorrow. If she is vomiting up even water I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian tonight.

My dog seems sick with runny eyes, drippy nose, and a cough. What's wrong?

This sounds like she has a mild cold or upper respiratory infection. Generally these are viral colds and will run their course over a week or so. Just like with us no antibiotics are needed unless she develops a secondary bacterial infection. If the discharge becomes green and her condition worsens then please bring her right in for treatment. Poor Diesel! It's possible that he has a respiratory infection or he could be suffering from cardiac disease. I would have him seen by a vet in the morning for a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and possible x-rays. These tests can help the vet diagnose what is causing his symptoms and can prescribe treatment for it.
