My dog gagged after chewing a raw bone. What should I watch for?

It sounds like she likely has some damage to her throat/esophagus from the bone. This sounds minor and will likely heal quickly, but I would have to examine her to know for sure. For now, it's fine to wait and feed soft food for the next couple of days. You can soften dry food by just adding a little water and waiting a couple of minutes. If she is not getting better, or is getting worse in the next 2-3 days, then it's best to have a vet evaluate her. I hope that helps and Stella gets better soon.

Bones can cause dental problems like broken teeth, and GI problems like obstruction and perforation. I would watch Babu for now. If you see a loss of appetite, him chewing on only one side of mouth or refusing to eat hard food, vomiting, diarrhea, blood in his poop, or lethargy, have him seen by a vet immediately. Your dog still may vomit the bone or some of the bone fragments and she will probably have an upset stomach for a day or so. She will probably also develop diarrhea or soft stools because of ingesting the bones. Keep a close eye on her and if the vomiting lasts more than 24 hours or she starts having bloody stools, you will need to take her to the veterinarian. Sounds like she got into quite the treat! Mocha may have a bit of an upset stomach after eating so much, so if she experiences any vomiting or diarrhea, you can pick up her food for a few hours and then offer her a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken to help settle her stomach (though if she ate a lot she may not be hungry for a bit!) Sometimes, dogs can eat these bones without chewing them which may cause choking or obstruction (they do digest over time), so watching out for any signs of problems such as attempting to vomit or defecate without success, coughing, choking, bloody vomiting or diarrhea, bloated abdomen, painful belly or walking hunched over is a good idea as they can indicate something more serious and urgent is onging. If she does show these signs, or seems pretty ill, seeking vet care in person is best.

Poor girl. I think both are a possibility here since they produce almost the exact same symptoms. Although you generally see more lethargy, smaller stool sizes and vomiting of both water and food in pets with an obstruction. At any rate Isabella should definitely be seen by your vet for testing (bloodwork + radiographs) and treatment based on what the final diagnosis is. I hope your fur baby is able to feel better soon! Hello! I am glad Luna is otherwise feeling good. It is possible that vomiting yesterday has irritated her throat or she got ahold of something while no one was looking. If her throat is what she is reacting to, it should decrease slowly over a couple days. If she is still gagging just as much after 48 hours or any of the parameters you are monitoring change such as energy, appetite, etc. then it would be a good idea to get her checked out by her regular vet.
