My dog's Frontline is due. Is she protected if I delay for water?

The active ingredients in Frontline Plus are rather safe, so I would not be worried about any toxic effects this long after you applied the previous dose. Considering the bathing likely did remove a fair amount of the previous solution and you are seeing fleas, it's safe to say that Maddie will need some extra protection. The manufacturer recommends not bathing until 48 hours after applying Frontline, but I always advise not to give a bath one week after applying topical medications like Frontline to be safe. To be extra safe, you can get a different product prescribed by a veterinarian. I hope that helps and all is well with Maddie.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I recommend waiting about 2-3 days after applying Frontline to bathe your dog to allow sufficient time for the product to absorb. You should also wait about 2-3 days after bathing to apply Frontline to allow the skin to be slightly oily to optimally absorb the product.

Hi there. I should have absorbed before he went swimming. I wouldn't apply another dose at this point because overdose can make them sick. Poor Floyd! Frontline usually needs to be reapplied every 4 weeks which may be why it wasn’t working well. I would just do a regular bath as a lot of the tick “dips” can cause dogs to have reactions. Or you can talk to your vet about a dip that may be safer than the OTC products. If you just choose to do a regular bath then I would just look him over really well while he is wet. I would then reapply frontline no earlier than 48 hours after the bath. Once frontline is applied, you are not suppose to bathe them again for another 48 hours after. I hope this helps!

It is safe to reapply the Frontline now, but in my experience, it doesn't have great flea protection. You may have better luck with Advantage products or a Seresto collar. The best flea protection is the prescription oral flea preventatives, like Bravecto or Nexgard.

Frontline doesn't always work unfortunately, but a flea shampoo is not likely to give you a better result. Instead I recommend using Advantage or Advocate spot on, Alternatively a comfortis tablet will do an excellent job as well. Do not bath her at least 3 days before and after you apply any spot on. As these flea treatment do not contain the same active ingredients as the frontline, they are safe to use at anytime you chose.

It shouldn’t be a problem for heartworm prevention, and while the length of time that the flea and tick prevention stays effective is variable as long as you don’t see fleas or ticks you should be fine.
