My dog has ticks after a hike. What shampoo kills missed ticks?

Frontline doesn't always work unfortunately, but a flea shampoo is not likely to give you a better result. Instead I recommend using Advantage or Advocate spot on, Alternatively a comfortis tablet will do an excellent job as well. Do not bath her at least 3 days before and after you apply any spot on. As these flea treatment do not contain the same active ingredients as the frontline, they are safe to use at anytime you chose.

Dogs are not supposed to get wet for at least 24 hours after application of a topical flea medication, and more than likely it was washed off during the bath. You can reapply the flea treatment, and I would give them Capstar given you have seen fleas. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes, and it's safe to be given at the same time as the spot on treatment. Just as a note, I would not recommend using Frontline. In my experience (and from the experience of many colleagues), there is a resistance to Frontline, and you may not get the best results from it. I recommend using Advantage or Revolution instead. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash their bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.

You will have to buy a treatment for ticks such as Frontlie spot on for example, you will need to apply the treatment on the back of the neck and wait about 24 hours until the ticks fall from her. you can also remove them manually with the aid of a tick remover but you still need to apply a treatment against ticks to protect her.

You should also wait about 2-3 days after bathing to apply Frontline to allow the skin to be slightly oily to optimally absorb the product.

The active ingredients in Frontline Plus are rather safe, so I would not be worried about any toxic effects this long after you applied the previous dose. Considering the bathing likely did remove a fair amount of the previous solution and you are seeing fleas, it's safe to say that Maddie will need some extra protection. The manufacturer recommends not bathing until 48 hours after applying Frontline, but I always advise not to give a bath one week after applying topical medications like Frontline to be safe. You are correct that the water and the baths will interfere with her Frontline. Even though she will be a little late for the medication, long-term this will not likely cause any effects. Hello, sorry to hear about Toffy. What you're seeing may or may not bee flea eggs. Flea eggs most commonly are found on the environment and not on your pet. What you may be seeing is lice or lice eggs. Frontline is only effecting against chewing lice but it does not treat sucking lice or lice eggs. Also, if you will be bathing toffy, bathe him prior to applying frontline and not after as you may be washing away some of the product if bathing too soon after administering the frontline. Finally, if Toffy does have fleas, then you also need to treat your environment. This means you should spray your yard and home with insecticide and wash his beddings or where ever he sleeps 2-3 times weekly. Successfully treating a flea infestation may take about 3-4 weeks.
