Is frequent dog pooping normal when eating more to gain weight?

No he's perfect. We are getting used to many dogs and cats being fat. His coat is shiny, he has a good waist and there is plenty of muscle over his spine. It does sound like he poops more than normal. I would try a higher calorie food. There may be excessive fiber in the food you are feeding causing that much poop. Gradually mix the new food with the old one over a week or so to prevent stomach upset. I'm pleased to see such a fit, active dog. That stool looks normal to me. There are a lot of factors that may be causing Chloe to poop more on the new food including the fiber content of the new diet. If she is otherwise acting normally you don't have to switch Chloe's food because defecating more frequently is not an issue as long as the stool is well formed. Because you state that Chloe is not very active you may want to consider a lower calorie food to prevent weight gain. An all canned food diet can also help to prevent weight gain. I am not sure what you are feeding but you should pick a high quality food that is easily to digest. Some of the lower quality foods will cause dogs to defecate more because the food is not very digestible. If he is having diarrhea then have your vet test a fecal sample for parasites.

Hello, sorry to hear about Astro. Yes indeed he could have a decreased absorption of his diet causing him to have larger stools and also be losing weight. This may be called exocrine pancreas insufficiency (EPI), however other kinds of underlying issues may include liver disease, kidney disease, and pancreatitis. I would recommend having Astro evaluated and bloodwork submitted to ensure he does not have any of these underlying diseases. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Yes it is likely the extra fiber. No worries here whatsoever. Some puppies do poop quite a bit and 2-3 times a day is normal as long as the poop is solid. I would however, but back on the daily egg, since this is mostly just added carbs for pets and can lead to her getting overweight. Best wishes with your puppy Tasha. Take care.

Frequent bowel movements are not necessarily abnormal. They should have a firm consistency, and not be like diarrhea. I would recommend that you have him on a large breed puppy food to help support his rapidly growing bones. You can try a different brand of food and see if that helps decrease the stool frequency.

If he's eating less fiber/volume or has had a change in diet while healing, it can be normal to see a reduction (or increase) in stool size, volume, or frequency. As long as he seems to be going normally when he does go, and doesn't seem in distress, I would just keep an eye on him. If the stool becomes bloody, is frequently diarrhea, Romeo has a sore or tender abdomen, or he seems to be having other symptoms in addition, a recheck with your vet is best.
