My dog eats a lot but is skinny. Why does he poop so frequently?

Lots of food means lots of poop. Since his feces appear to be normal the frequency likely is caused by the amount of food. Once you are at the point where you feed a normal amount of food to maintain his weight, the frequency should get less.

Hello, sorry to hear about Astro. Yes indeed he could have a decreased absorption of his diet causing him to have larger stools and also be losing weight. This may be called exocrine pancreas insufficiency (EPI), however other kinds of underlying issues may include liver disease, kidney disease, and pancreatitis. I would recommend having Astro evaluated and bloodwork submitted to ensure he does not have any of these underlying diseases. Hope this helps and best of luck.

That stool looks normal to me. There are a lot of factors that may be causing Chloe to poop more on the new food including the fiber content of the new diet. If she is otherwise acting normally you don't have to switch Chloe's food because defecating more frequently is not an issue as long as the stool is well formed. Because you state that Chloe is not very active you may want to consider a lower calorie food to prevent weight gain. An all canned food diet can also help to prevent weight gain. No he’s not too thin. He’s athletically lean. As long as he has as much food as he wants you do not need to worry. Many dogs regulate the amount they eat depending on their energy expenditure. That way they maintain their optimal weight. You are correct to feed when there are no distractions and he has time to pick at the food if he doesn’t want it all at once. Has he had a fecal sample tested for exposure to intestinal parasites? If he hasn't, I would recommend having one evaluated. If his stool sample is negative, I would recommend having him evaluated by his regular veterinarian to have a thorough physical, and have a conversation about changing his diet, as it may not be working as well for him as we would hope. I would recommend a really good deworming since he is young. However it would be best to take a fecal to the vet to determine if he has parasites and if so what kind. If he does not have any parasites I would recommend a food change. I would try a basic diet like purina, royal canine, or science diet puppy food.

You should be able to feel her ribs while standing without pushing hard and she should have an hour glass waist from the sides and top of her body. She should also have good muscle definition in her chest and limbs. Make sure you are feeding what the bag of food says for her daily amount based on her weight.
