My dog has food allergies. Is her heavy breathing an allergy symptom?

If she is having difficulty breathing then she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat. Your vet could take an X-ray to evaluate her heart and lungs. If she is scratching a lot then she may also have allergies and your vet can prescribe an antihistamine to treat. Also inspect her for fleas and uses a flea prevention , like NexGard, Bravecto, Frontline, etc.

This may be due to allergies, infection, laryngeal paralysis or hyperthermia just to name a few causes. In an older dog, heart disease cannot be ruled out. It could be allergies or she could be overweight (obesity in dogs can cause snoring and/or breathing problems). If there are no symptoms while she is awake I don't think any treatment is needed. I would recommended Kaya see her veterinarian for an exam so her vet can determine whether or not she has an infection or whether it is just caused by an allergy and to determine what treatment may be most appropriate.
