After dog flea medicine, when can I bathe and safely touch my dog?

Since a bath wets the skin significantly and also softens it, I suggest you wait a few hours until your dog is completely dry , ie has a dry hair coat as well as completely dry skin. Once the skin is dry there should be no problem with application of the tick and flea treatment.

According to the manufacturer..... Please wait 48 hours between product application and bathing. A non-medicated shampoo made for dogs is fine. Baths can be given as often as once per month without affecting the performance of the product. If more than one bath is given, the product should be reapplied after the second bath. Flea shampoo, medicated shampoos, human shampoo and dish detergents are not appropriate choices when managing fleas with K9 Advantix® II and may affect the performance of the product.

Dogs are not supposed to get wet for at least 24 hours after application of a topical flea medication, and more than likely it was washed off during the bath. You can reapply the flea treatment, and I would give them Capstar given you have seen fleas. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes, and it's safe to be given at the same time as the spot on treatment. Just as a note, I would not recommend using Frontline. In my experience (and from the experience of many colleagues), there is a resistance to Frontline, and you may not get the best results from it. I recommend using Advantage or Revolution instead. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash their bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.

Advantage is not toxic to cats, but K9 Advantix is - so if this is what you're using, you want to make sure that the product is fully dry before any close contact (like cuddling, mutual grooming, etc.) between the dog and the cats. I would wait at least 24 hours to be safe.

I would say after 24 hours, Leo should be fine to see other dogs. Depending on what product you used, efficacy rates can vary. The best products are oral products such as Comfortis, Simparica or Trifexis. Some over the counter products don't work well at all. So there is variability in how well it will work. Flea medication should be absorbed within 24-48 hours. Romeo can roam around the house, but I would not allow him on the couch until it is dry. Bathing and swimming should not take place for at least 24 hours after the application of a spot-on product such as Bravecto. I typically recommend at least 36 hours just to make sure we aren't washing away the medication.
