Dog fight injuries: My Chihuahua won't eat or drink. What can I do?

Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, he refuses to eat the bland diet, he develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

If she’s in pain she may not want to eat. I’ve found doing some gentle massage and heat to the neck and back can often get them to relax and feel better so they may eat something. Most dogs love wet cat food so I’ll often try that, placing a small amount into her mouth or on her nose so she licks it off. If needed I would take her back for a recheck and they can give her fluids so she doesn’t get dehydrated. Hopefully as she gets better from the bruising her appetite will return. I am definitely concerned about Huerra's bite wounds. The wounds on her leg look deep, and I always recommend flushing and exploring bite wounds under sedation since often there is even more damage under the surface. I would recommend seeing an emergency veterinarian. They would be able to prescribe pain medication and antibiotics to prevent infection as well.

Cub is such a cutie! I'm sorry to hear he is not feeling himself. If he is crying and has a poor appetite, I worry that he is in pain somewhere. His behavior toward your other dog may be his way of showing stress. I would definitely recommend that he be assessed by your family vet soon. If this has just started today and there are no other symptoms of illness, you could try enticing her to eat with some plain boiled chicken and white rice or with the canned version of the diet she is already used to eating. If she doesn't start eating and drinking in the next 12 to 24 hours, I would recommend getting her to your regular veterinarian for an exam. If this has been going on for more than 24 hours at this point, especially if she's experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, or lethargy, I would recommend a vet visit as soon as possible. Small dogs are especially susceptible to low blood sugar and dehydration if they don't eat and drink for extended periods of time.
