Why is my chihuahua crying, not eating, and biting other dog?

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 55 lbs

My chihuahua crys alot and is not eating or drinking water and keeps biting and jumping on my other dog. What do I do?

Cub is such a cutie! I'm sorry to hear he is not feeling himself. If he is crying and has a poor appetite, I worry that he is in pain somewhere. His behavior toward your other dog may be his way of showing stress. I would definitely recommend that he be assessed by your family vet soon. Hi and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry that Cub is not feeling well! There are, unfortunately, a lot of potential causes for why Cub is acting the way he is. If your other dog is an unspayed female and he is an unneutered male he could be jumping on her and biting at her because he senses her hormones. Also, in this regard if your other dog is an unneutered dog and Cub senses an unspayed female in the vicinity of your house he may be becoming possessive and that is what is causing his biting and they certainly do not usually eat when they feel this way as well. The other possibilities are medical, ie intestinal parasites, gastroenteritis (upset stomach), etc. As well as something as "simple" as stress can set off behavior of not eating and redirected aggression towards housemates. I would suggest trying to eliminate some of these causes. The next step would be to offer a bland diet, ie boiled, skinless chicken breast and white rice to try and encourage eating as well. Another option is even chicken or turkey baby food. If Cub is still not eating and redirecting his aggression I would take him to your local veterinarian for an evaluation and diagnostics. Good luck!

Why is my chihuahua suddenly tucking his tail, shaking, and not eating?

Poor Zeus! The shaking can be a sign of pain, which would cause him to not eat or drink. He could be in pain from an injury, such as a torn ligament or muscle, or he could be in pain from an illness or infection. If he had a foreign body stuck in his GI tract, for example, that would be painful and cause him to not want to eat or drink. I think it would be a good idea to take him into your vet today for an exam given how quickly his symptoms appeared. Your vet can determine what has caused him to have these symptoms, and how best to treat it.

My Chihuahua is acting strange, not active, and yelped when moved?

If she cried out in pain, I recommend to have her examined. It's possible she hurt her neck or back in the tub last night but it could be unrelated. She sounds like she is not feeling good. Since she can't talk and she may be in pain, it's best to play it safe and have her examined today. I hope she gets back to normal quickly!

Poor guy. It sounds like he may be painful in his belly or even his joints. This is concerning when a pet is painful and also isn't eating. I would highly recommend that your friend take Peanut to the vet to get him examined. This needs to be looked at closer in order to determine what might be going on here, since so many problems can cause the symptoms he has. I do hope that your friends pet is able to get better soon! With her breed, it is likely that she has dental disease and a tooth infection that may be causing this discomfort. Placing her on an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory such as Clindamycin and Meloxicam may certainly help reduce her discomfort and treat a dental infection. I hope this helps! In the meantime, you can feed her canned food and soften her hard food with warm water or chicken broth.

Aw poor Byron! It sounds like he is pretty sick. Some of what your describing may be related to back or neck pain or abdominal pain caused by gastrointestinal disease. Without an examination it's difficult to say what is causing the problem. I recommend taking Byron to see a veterinarian right away so he can be examined and the cause of his illness can be determined. He may need pain medication and because there are no safe over the counter pain medications for dogs you will need a prescription pain medication from a veterinarian. Why is my dog not eating, losing weight, and acting depressed?

Eating less than before and losing weight is concerning. This may be caused by a tooth problem, pain in the mouth or jaws, gastrointestinal disease, general pain and many other conditions. Unfortunately it is a very unspecific sign so I suggest you take your dog to your vet for an exam and some blood work to get to the bottom of this.
