Why are all my dogs sick with vomiting, diarrhea, and not eating?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dogs. I worry they have something infectious if they are both displaying similar symptoms. An upper respiratory tract infection is usually indicated by coughing, sneezing, eye and/or nose discharge and bringing up white foamy material. The diarrhea may or may not be related. They will need to see their veterinarian if their symptoms persist. A lot of times an antibiotic will be prescribed. In the meantime, encourage them to continue drinking so that they do not become dehydrated. It is generally safe to hold a dog off of food for 18-24 hours to rest the GI tract. They may require fecal testing and medication to clear up their symptoms. I worry that they may become dehydrated as well with losing fluid in the both the vomit and the diarrhea. I would encourage them to drink frequent small amounts of water. It is generally safe to withhold food for 18-24 hours in a effort to rest the gastrointestinal tract. I'm sorry all your dogs are suddenly sick! Thank you for providing pictures of one of your dogs. From the picture of the teeth, I see areas of redness, but they appear to me to be localized around the teeth itself. It makes me think those red areas may be due to gingivitis, but without seeing your pups in person, I can't say for certain. When I hear that all dogs in a family have suddenly gotten ill, I think that they have either gotten into something rotten or something toxic. Given that all your dogs are ill, the best thing to do is have them seen by a vet as soon as possible. The vet can diagnose what is causing their symptoms, and can treat them. In any situation when many dogs are affected, conditions such as parasites, bacterial/viral infections, or exposure to toxins are most suspected. If all 4 are sick then I worry about infectious diseases like parvo (if not vaccinated) or worms. Not holding down water and food is serious for puppies. Bring a stool sample and expect the Vet to parvo test. I wish you the best!

It sounds like your dog is sick. The drooling can be due to nausea, and the lethargy, vomiting, anorexia, and diarrhea could be due to a severe GI illness, eating something rotten, pancreatitis, or a foreign body. I would take your dog into a vet right away for an exam, he sounds quite ill with all these symptoms, and he needs to be medically treated ASAP.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having this problem! Unfortunately, it's really not possible to know what's causing this without more information, since acting lethargic and not eating are very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost any kind of illness. If any of the dogs have had lab work, x-rays, or other testing done, it would be helpful to know what the results were in order to give some possibilities. For a definitive diagnosis, the best option would be to have an autopsy (called a necropsy in animals) performed on one of the dogs who passed away.
