My Boston Terrier has a fever, diarrhea, and won't eat. What's wrong?

Poor Willow sounds quite sick! She could have a pyometra (an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment), a systemic illness, or may have gotten into something toxic causing her symptoms. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain. The best thing to do is take her into a vet immediately, as she is too sick to treat at home.

It sounds like he needs immediate care if he is not eating, he is lethargic and may have a fever. This sounds like a serious condition that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Your veterinarian will perform a full physical exam and determine what additional testing may need to be done (xrays, bloodwork) to give you a better idea of what treatments are needed. Good luck.

Thnk you for submitting your question regarding Mugsy. I am so sudden for his sudden loss. That is difficult to bear any time, but especially with a dog so young. An impacted anal glad could not result in the symptoms you have described. So I do not believe his scooting was part of the disease process. It is difficult to tell from the x-ray, but I worry there is fluid in his abdomen as there is poor detail. It is difficult to make out specific internal organs. Fluid can be from an infection, bleeding or significant GI, liver, heart or kidney disease. Regardless of the cause, he was very sick and the outcome likely would not have been different with anything you could have done. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

Oh my. Poor guy. If he has a fever this can be caused by a bacterial or viral infection (i.e. Parvovirus if he isn't fully vaccinated). I would have him tested for parvovirus first and if that comes up negative he needs full panel bloodwork and a urinalysis. to fully evaluate him. He should be on antibiotics and fluid therapy to help bring down his fever. He also needs anti-vomit medication to prevent him from becoming dehydrated due to excessive vomiting. If his condition has not improved within 24-48 hrs, then you should consider having him hospitalized so that he can get around the clock care and treatment. Poor guy. I do hope that your pup Shadow is able to make a full and speedy recovery from his illness. For tonight you can try feeding him some slghly warmed up cans of baby food (meat and vegetables or squash) to try to entice him to eat. Only a small amount at a time to hopefully not induce his vomiting. Best wishes and take care.

These signs are compatible with a severe gastrointestinal infection.Unfortunately a check up would be the ideal solution as antibiotics may be needed to solve the possible infection and before clinical condition becomes critical. You can try to switch her diet to a more digestible one based on boiled chicken and rice but other than that a check up is really essential. Hi there! Sorry to hear that Poppy is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms, gastrointestinal obstruction and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Poppy evaluated by a veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. Causes of a fever are: Lyme disease, immune conditions, infection (urinary, joint, lung) or pending GI upset. If she isn't better by the morning she should be seen by your Vet. I wish you the best!
