My dog fell and bled from her vagina. What's next for her recovery?

So sorry that Dolly fell down the steps. Since the x-ray did not show a break then she may have a soft tissue injury, like a strain, sprain, or possibly a ligament tear. I am not exactly sure why your vet prescribed a diuretic (Lasix), an antibiotic (Cephadar), and Corotrop (heart medication) so you really need to discuss with your veterinarian. Please call your vet an ask him/her why the medications were prescribed and exactly what the medications are treating. It is difficult to make a recommendation without knowing your dogs entire medical history and knowing the results of the physical examination.

I think she should be rechecked. It sounds like she had an open pyometra or uterine infection. While the discharge could still be normal it's also possible that she needs antibiotics for a bit longer. Sometimes the injections and antibiotics do not completely clear the infection and surgery is necessary.

Poor kallua. As she has not responded to a week of antibiotics it is time to investigate further. An ultrasound exam to assess bowel, bladder and womb may be helpful in determining the underlying cause and guide further treatment. Blood tests for clotting function and anemia may also be useful if noo physical cause is identified

The blood coukd be from a UTI or even bladder stones. It should not be related to the tablet she ate but since I don’t know all its ingredients it is difficult for me to say for sure. I suggest you get her back to the vet for a follow-up and a urine test.

Hello, I am sorry but on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach we are not able to prescribe medications. Legally, your dog needs to be physically seen by a vet to get antibiotic treatment. If Daisy has indeed a ruptured anal gland abscess, she will need a course antibiotics to get better. Maybe you can talk to your local vets about a payment plan or try and find a low-cost clinic for Daisy ?

First off, I'm so sorry that Piper had complications during her surgery! Complications can happen, and if the bowels needed to be relocated to find the bleed, it does make sense to put her on a course of antibiotics to be safe. If her bowels were perforated, the vet would have told you about that complication, so it's more than likely she was prescribed the antibiotics as a precautionary measure. I'd be careful comparing how humans and dogs are dose in medications because dogs require different doses of drugs and may be given them for longer durations. This is a highly unusual situation, and in my 10 years of being a vet I have never heard of a male dog attempting to have sex with a spayed female dog. However, what is most important now is getting Lucille out from under the bed and getting the bleeding stopped. I would suggest gently nudging her out from under the bed with the long handle of a broom (using a sweeping motion and not poking her with it) or consider dismantling the bed and removing it in order to gain access to her. Once you have her, place a lead around her neck so that she cannot hide again. You will need to apply direct pressure to the vaginal area in order to stem the bleeding. Hopefully no arteries were torn and the bleeding is not as profuse as you think it is. Once you have pressure on the wound you will need to again try to reach the vet in your area. She may have tearing that needs to be addressed ASAP in order to prevent infection and further blood loss. Adding ice to your compress may provide some constriction of the vessels and slow bleeding until you can reach veterinary care.
