My dog failed rabies test. Will another vaccine increase titer?

I know that we charge about $150 for a Rabies titer (PA). I would call practices in your area. California has a higher standard of living than other areas. Your vet has little control over lab prices. Your Vet was probably trying to just be honest and up front that it is just cheaper to vaccinated and meant no harm. For what it’s worth a high rabies titer is not valid as proof of vaccination according to the law. It will not protect your dogs from quarantine at your cost if they bite someone. Rabies is deadly in humans and the law sadly doesn’t care about titers or over vaccination. I wish you the best!

If she vomited 6 times last night than you need to call your vet and give him/her an update. Your vet may want to see your dog again today for a recheck. She might need subcutaneous fluids again and/or an anti-vomiting medications. Hope our dog feels better soon!

This is absolutely no problem. We often vaccinate against rabies more often when dogs need to travel abroad and need to show a particularly high vaccination titer. It is a normal side effect that your dog is a bit tired after the vaccination.

Your pet will likely be fine as long as Scooby does not have an vaccine allergy issues. Many vets will try to get dogs on a schedule so that all vaccines are done at once (so clients don’t have to come in multiple times). There are different types of Rabies vaccination titers. The FAVN is required for travel to Rabies free countries, but they also offer the RFFIT which is less expensive, but is not adequate for travel. Hello, and thanks for your question. I'm wondering if the rabies vaccine product or protocol is a bit different in India vs the United States. Our typical protocol with a previously vaccinated (up-to-date) dog who may have been exposed to a rabid animal (such as a wild animal or unvaccinated dog) is to booster the dog immediately with another rabies vaccine - just once....and then get back on the standard vaccine schedule of every 3 years. We don't typically do the multi-dose PEP you're describing, although that protocol would be given to people with exposure. However, rabies is much more endemic in your area - so I would defer to the advice of your local vet who treats far more rabies exposure cases than we would. If the original plan (prior to your dog's second altercation with another stray) was to give the two additional shots on the 4th and 5th, then I would probably stick with this plan. All vaccines can carry a small risk of reaction - but there's no "overdose" per say. And any risk of vaccine reaction is negligible compared to the risk of actual rabies exposure, in a rabies endemic area. So it is always best to err on the side of protection from rabies. Yes sure certain Rabies vaccinations (only certain formulations) needs to be repeated two times 3-4 weeks apart to be effective.
